Cult Burial/Reverie Of The Malignant/2023 FUll length Review

 

  United  Kingdom's  Cult  Burial  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for a   mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Reverie  Of  The  Malignant"  which  will  be  released  in  October.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  atmospheric  sounding  synths.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  and  elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  album  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clean  playing  can  also b e  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Cult  Burial  remain  true  to  the  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  post  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  depths  of  the  human  experience.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Cult  Burial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom,  death  and  post  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  NCLUDE  "Awaken"  "Strive"  and  "Oblivion".  8 out  of  10.

Thine Inner Sanctum/In Silence, I Wept/Misophonic Symphony Records/2023 EP Review

 

  Thine  Inner  Sanctum  are  a  solo  project  from  Scotland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  style  of  blackened  doom  metal  with  some  elements  of  goth  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "In  Silence,  I  Wept"  which  was  released  by  Misophonic  Symphony  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  keyboards  and  female  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of t he  recording.  Clear  male  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  elements  of  goth  metal  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a lot  of  melody.

  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  are  heavily  rooted  in  doom  metal.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as a   couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length,  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental  and  the  whole  recording  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  On  this  release  Thine  inner  Sanctum  takes  his  blackened  style  of  doom  metal  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  gothic  metal  influenced  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  sorrow  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thine  Inner  Sanctum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  and  gothic  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Conflicted  In  Tears"  and  "Sea  of  Souls".  8  out  of  10.

Lithik/Geomorphology/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Lithik  are  a  solo  project  from  Australia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Geomorphology".

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  The  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  blackened  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  One  song  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  album  along  with  the  music  also  showing  an  influence  of  the  90's  melodic  doom/death  metal  era  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats  and  fast  playing  and  most  of  the  recording  sticks  to  a  slower  direction.

  On  this  album  Lithik  remains  true  to  the  blackened  style  of  doom  metal  that  he  has  established  on  his  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  subtilties  and  brutalities  of  our  ever -changing  world.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lithik  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Germination  In  Fire"  "Eruption"  "Mass  Extinction"  and  "Glacial".  8  out  of  10.
