Willow Wisp are a band from Hollywood, Ca that has a history that goes back as far as the 80's that plays a very avant garde form of gothic black/death metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "Antihuman Manifesto" which was released by Blastzone Entertainment.
Drums range from slow to mid paced parts with a lot of fast playing and brutal blast beats, while the synths when they are utilized have a very dark atmospheric avant garde feel that has a gothic doom metal feel at times, as for the bass playing, as for the bass playing is all rhythm bass that follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars are heavy riffs that mix some brutal death metal with some fast to mid paced black metal riffing as well as some slow doomy riffs, while the lead guitars are heavy solos that have influences from early 90's death metal with some progressive playing being used at times, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized use a lot of open chords and finger picking that gives the music a trippy feel.
Vocals are a mixture between high pitched black metal screams and deep death metal growls with some clean singing being used at times, while the lyrics touch on some Anti Christian, Satanic, Nietzsche philosophy, as well as a hatred for mankind with a poetic touch, as for the production on this album which was recorded and mixed between May 2008 and October 2009 at Satori Studios in Torrance, Ca sounds very professional and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are on this recording.
In my opinion this is a very good album from Willow Wisp that is much heavier than their past work which was more gothic and industrial influenced, and if you are a fan of the heavier side of Willow Wisp you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Dead Man's Ballad" "7734999" and "Floating On A Cloud". RECOMMENDED BUY.
