Mephistopheles are a band from Tasmania, Australia that plays a very technical form of blackened death metal with elements of jazz and this is a review of their 2013 album "Sounds Of The ENd" which was released by Willowtip.
"Pariahs Of The Universe" begins with some Aborigine folk instruments setting up the pace for some drums which in return leads to a melodic guitar riff and after that its goes into a technical direction and introduces growls and screams and after awhile it starts getting a little more heavier along with some guitar leads,
"Silver Doors" begins with technical guitar riffing, drums and growls setting up the mood for some powerful bass playing, guitar leads and screams before going into a heavier direction and after a few minutes sound effects make their presence known before the song returns back to normal.
"Soldiers Of The End Time" starts off with technical guitar riffing, and blast beats before the growls and screams kick in setting up the mood for some melodic guitar leads which in return leads to the song switching back and forth between slow and fast parts, a couple minutes later a brief use of melodic singing comes in mixing in with the screams and growls as well as utilizing some spoken word parts.
"The End Of All Light" begins with some melodic riffing, drums and growls which take the music in a heavier direction as well as introducing the screams, after awhile there is a brief use of melodic guitar leads as well as some blast beats.
"Battle Of The Sea And Sky" starts off with some heavy, melodic and technical riffs along with some drums which lead to screams and growls which take the music in a heavier direction after that along with some blast beats and the song closes with sound effects.
"Those Whose Skin Is Cold" begins with some melodic guitar riffs, drums and growls setting up the mood for some blast beats and screams before going into a more progressive direction along with some powerful bass playing but remaining heavy and after awhile a brief use of guitar leads makes its presence known before heading into another brutal selection before going back to normal as well as doing some switching back and forth.
"The Great Orbs Beyond Our Skies" begins with some heavy riffing, drums and growls before going into a more technical direction while also remaining brutal at the same time and after awhile screams start kicking in along with a variety of many different style of riffs ranging from brutal and technical and you can hear bass guitars in the background setting up the mood for some melodic clean singing which also combines with the screams and growls and after a few minutes there is a brief use of spoken word parts.
"Generation O" begins with heavy and melodic guitar playing and drums which lead to some growls and screams before adding in some brutal blast beats before returning back to normal as well as making switches back and forth along with the technical elements and screams getting more powerful along with guitar leads.
"A Dolmen Maker's Lament" begins with some melodic guitar riffing setting up the mood for some powerful drumming and melodic vocals which in return leads to some powerful bass playing and melodic guitar leads.
"The Siren Of Eternity" begins" with some progressive guitar riffs, drums and bass guitars which leads to a heavier direction along with some growls and after awhile it goes into a faster direction along with some blast beats and screams setting up the mood for melodic guitar leads and chanting and after awhile it heads into a more heavy direction and the album closes with some folk instruments.
Song lyrics cover fantasy and sci fi themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound.
In my opinion Mephistopheles are a very great sounding technical blackened death metal band with elements of jazz and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should c heck out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pariahs Of The Universe" "The End Of All Light" "Generation O" and "The Siren Of Eternity". RECOMMENDED BUY.
