Soul Remnants are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Black And Blood" which was released by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.
"Chopwork II" begins with some sound effects before going into old school death metal guitar riffs and drums which leads to some guitar solos and growls which start adding in blackened elements after awhile as well as bringing in mid paced sections and melodic riffing which leads up to another guitar lead before adding in a variety of many different style death metal riffs.
"Cauldron Of Blood" begins with some drums, melodic guitar riffs and black metal screams which leads to the guitar riffs and vocals bring in death metal and mixing them with the blackened elements and after awhile guitar solos start coming in and out of the song as w ell as mixing in slow, mid paced and fast parts.
"Incinerator" begins with some heavy guitar riffs and powerful drums which also mix in some blast beats before slowing down and adding in growls before reverting back to the faster parts and adding in some blackened vocals as well as thrash influences in the guitar riffing along with some powerful bass playing and towards the end there is a brief use of melodic death metal guitar solos.
"Symptoms Of Death" begins with some heavy guitar riffs and drums which leads to some growls before going into a faster direction and adding in blast beats and grindcore influences along with some high pitched black metal screams and after awhile the music slows down and starts mixing in some dark death metal guitar solos along with the heavy rhythms, growls and screams.
"Dead Black(Heart Of Ice)" begins with some acoustic guitar playing and melodic guitar leads which leads to some drums and keyboards as well as heavy guitar rhythms setting up the mood for some black metal screams as well as some melodic riffing while also keeping some of the leads around, as the song moves on it adds in some powerful bass playing and switching back and forth between black and death metal along with some growls before returning to its softer roots for a few seconds before reverting back to black/death metal and adding in some melodic solos along with more blast beats as well as switching back and forth between slow and fast parts.
"Rape Casket" begins with some heavy death metal guitar riffs and drums which also mix in some leads before kicking into blast beats and blackened death metal vocals and after awhile you can hear some powerful bass playing and melody as well as the songs switching back and forth between slow and fast parts along with a few seconds of keyboards which lead to some melodic guitar leads kicking in and out.
"No Afterlife" begins with some old school death metal guitar riffs and drums which leads to a darker atmosphere along with screams and growls as well as switching back and forth between being low and fast as well as powerful bass guitars which also lead to a brief use of guitar solos while focusing more on riffing and towards the end the song starts mixing in thrash elements along with more melodic leads.
"The Antifaith" begins with heavy bass, guitar riffs and drums which leads to some blackened death metal vocals before switching back and forth between slow and fast parts as well as bringing some guitar solos in and out of the mix.
"Reanimation" begins with heavy guitar riffs and dark bass which leads to some drums kicking in as well as the guitar riffs getting more melodic which leads to the music getting more brutal and adding in death/black metal vocals which then leads to t he song switching back and forth between slow and fast parts along with some melodic leads towards the end.
Song lyrics cover darkness, death and gore themes, while the production has a very dark, heavy, and professional sound where you can hear all the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
In my opinion Soul Remnants are a very great sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cauldron Of Blood" "Dead Black(Heart Of Ice)" "Rape Casket" and "The Antifaith". RECOMMENDED BUY.
