This is a review of a split album between France And Sweden's Deprived of Light, The Foetal Mind and Psycholypse which was released by Hypnotic Dirge Records in the year of 2011 and called "Colored Death" and we will start off the review with Deprived of Light a duo that plays post rock with elements of black and doom metal.
"Intro" starts off the album with dark and melodic sounding post rock guitar riffs and a minute alter shoegaze sounds start to kick in.
"Dark And Sad" opens up with heavy and melodic sounding guitar riffs and leads along with some drums and a few seconds later blackened death metal growls and screams kick in and a minute alter clean guitars are added into the music along with some melodic clean singing vocals as well as some doom metal elements.
"Colored Death" which is also the title track for the album begins with distorted and esoteric sounding synths before adding in some heavy melodic guitar riffs and leads as well as some drums and growls and after awhile screams and melodic vocals make their way into the music and after a few minutes the music goes into a more post rock direction before getting heavy again.
"Interlude" which is an instrumental opens up with dark ambient synths and melodic post rock guitar riffs and as time goes on by the music gets more diverse while not adding in much of the way of heavier parts.
"Cast Into The Shade" begins with dark sounding ambient synths and drones before adding in heavy, melodic guitar riffs and leads along with some drums which also leads to growls and screams kicking in and a minute alter melodic vocals become a part of the song before mixing clean and heavy parts together.
"Forgotten Minds" kicks in with drums along wit h some heavy, melodic guitar riffs and leads and a few seconds alter growls and screams start to kick in as well a s a mixture of clean and heavy playing as well as a brief use of melodic vocals.
"Outro" closes their side of the album with dark ambient synths and drones as well as elements of trip hop and clean post rock style guitar playing.
Song lyrics cover dark themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it.
In my opinion Deprived of Light are a very great sounding mixture of post rock, black and doom metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Cast Into The Shade". RECOMMENDED.
Next up is The Foetal Mind a band that plays post rock with elements of black metal.
"Soul Mate" which is the first song on his side of the split opens up with clean post rock style guitar riffs and a few seconds alter bass guitars and drums kick in before getting heavy and adding in guitar solos and leads and after awhile the music starts adding in elements of drone and noise.
"My Metal Ways I" begins with drones before adding in heavy and melodic sounding guitar riffs as well as some drum programming and a few seconds later clean and heavy guitars mix together as well as some guitar leads kicking in.
"My Metal Ways II" which is also his last on on this split starts up with clean guitar playing and a few seconds later heavy and melodic post metal guitar riffing kicks in along with some programmed drum beats and a small amount of guitar leads..
Lyrics a re all absent from this side of the recording with all of the music being all instrumental, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it.
In my opinion The Foetal Mind are a very great sounding post/rock metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Soul Mate". RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Psycholypse a band that plays a very melodic form of death metal.
"Within Your Heart" which is also the first side on their side of the split opens up with heavy and melodic sounding guitar and bass riffs as well as some drums before adding in high pitched melodic death metal screams as well as some growls and sticking to a mid paced direction.
"Bursting Night" which is also the last song on the album begins with heavy and melodic sounding guitar and bass riffs along with some drums and after awhile it goes into a faster direction along with some elements of thrash before slowing down again along with a mixture of heavy and clean guitars and towards the end elements of electronic music are added into the song.
Song lyrics cover everyday themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it.
In my opinion Psycholypse are a very great sounding melodic death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Within Your Heart". RECOMMENDED.
