Fatalism are a duo from New England that plays a musical style they consider etherial gloom and this is a review of their 2014 cassette "Mystery Of Death" which was released by Eternal Death.
A very dark and old school death rock style sound starts off the album along with some ritualistic spoken word parts and after a couple of minutes slow black metal style guitar riffing is added into the music along with some melodic post rock style guitar leads a few minutes later and you can also hear a good amount of doom metal in the bands musical sound.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and they also bring in a great amount of gothic rock, shoegaze and dark ambient elements into their musical sound and when keyboards are added into the music they enhance the ritualistic and occult atmosphere that this music invokes and they also bring in a brief use of fast riffing that almost gives the music a raw black metal feeling before returning back to a more slow and etherial direction.
Fatalism create a very ritualistic and occult sound that is hard to categorized and you can hear traces of black metal, doom, post rock, shoegaze, ambient, ritual, goth and death rock being added into all of the songs on the cassette, the production sounds very raw and dark while the lyrics cover Occultism, Darkness and Poetic themes.
In my opinion Fatalism are a very great sounding etherial gloom band and if you are looking for something very original and different, you should check out this cassette. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Isabelle" and "Gloom Reaper". 8 out of 10.
