AthanaTheos are a band from France that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2012 album "Alpha Theistic".
Sound effects and spoken word samples start off the album before going into a more heavy and brutal death metal direction along with some death growls along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later which mix in with the growls and the band starts adding blast beats into their music.
After awhile there is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts throughout the recording and the guitar solos and leads they use are in a more melodic black/death metal direction and the guitar riffing also uses some melody at times while the main focus remains more on a brutal sound and some of the later tracks see the band adding in a brief use of rain noises in between songs.
As the album progresses there are some melodic Gregorian chants and Swedish black metal influences being added into their musical style as well as a small amount of atmospheric elements and the music really starts going for more of a blackened death metal direction and on a couple of the later tracks sees a brief use of spoken word parts and clean playing being added into the music and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
AthanaTheos plays a very brutal dark form of death metal which they mix in with a great amount of black metal influences to create their own sound, the production sounds very heavy and powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover religions, beliefs and humanities.
In my opinion AthanaTheos are a very great sounding brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dawn Of Genesis" "Purification by Primordial Waters" and "As Your Lord Was In the Storm" and "Ghost And Chimera". 8 out of 10.
