Ectovoid are a band from Alabama that has been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Dark Abstraction" which will be released in July by Hellthrasher Productions.
A very dark and distorted demonic sound starts off the album before going into more of a death metal direction along with a decent amount of growls and blast beats and some of the riffs also add in elements of thrash and there are also some high pitched black metal screams being added into some parts of the songs.
Some of the riffs bring in a decent amount of melody and throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, when solos and leads are utilized they are done in mostly a melodic musical direction and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording and most of the bands death metal influences are very heavily rooted in the early 90's and the whole album also sticks to a heavy musical direction.
On this recording Ectovoid takes a 90's style of death metal and mixes it in with some elements of second wave black metal to create an album t hat is very old school yet heavy at the same time, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover space, dreams, transcendence and darkness.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ectovoid and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Visions Of Reflective Decay" "Rituals Of Hallucination" and "Spawned From Unending Mystery". 8 out of 10.
