Manzer are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Beyond The Iron portal" which was released as a joint effort between Armee De La Mort and Legion Of Death Records.
Melodic guitar leads and powerful bass guitars start off the album giving the music a traditional classic metal feeling and after the intro they add in more thrash and first wave black elements elements along with some aggressive screaming vocals and the fast parts also utilize a great amount of blast beats.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the 80's and 90's while also bringing in more of a modern take on the genre and there is also a brief use of power metal screams and the vocals also mix in a little bit of melody into the aggression and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and they also bring in an instrumental before returning back to vocals on the following tracks and they also use the bass guitar as a lead instrument quite a bit throughout the recording.
With this recording Manzer takes the black and thrash metal mixture of previous recordings and mix in more speed and traditional metal elements to take their musical style to another level, thee production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satan, Alcohol, Sex, Blasphemy and Pictavian themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Manzer and if you are a fan of black and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Torment Of the Strix" "Nuclear Necropolis" and "Hard Metal Jackhammer". 8 out of 10.
