This is a review of a split album between U.S.A's Howls Of Ebb and Germany's Khthoniik Cerviiks called "With gangrene Edges/Voiidwarp"which will be released in September by I, Voidhanger Records and we will start off the review with Howls Of Ebb a band that plays a very progressive and avant garde style of blackened death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with Clean playing that also gives the songs a more avant garde edge between adding in some progressive yet heavy riffing while you can also hear all of t he musical instruments that are present on the recording along with the riffs also using a decent amount of melody.
Vocals bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the last track adds in more of an experimental style while also adding in ritualistic spoken word parts, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover Occult Rituals and Communing With Malign Beings themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Howls Of Ebb and if you are a fan of avant garde blackened death metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "With Gangrene Edges'.
Next up is Khthonik Cerviiks a band that plays a psychotic form of blackened death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very avant garde and experimental style while also adding in spoken word parts at times and one the second track the music goes into more of a heavier and dissonant direction while also introducing death metal growls and black metal screams onto their side of the recording.
All of the musical instruments on the side of the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the faster sections of the songs also use a great amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with clean playing being added into certain sections of the recording and a great portion of their tracks are very long and epic in length, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover apocalypse, decline, devolution and the technoccult themes.
In my opinion Khthoniik Cerviiks are a very great sounding avant garde mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Come To The Subeth".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and if you are a fan of avant garde and blackened death metal, you should check out this album. 8 out of 10.
