Disembowel/Plagues And Ancient Ruins/Iron Bonehead Productions/2018 CD Review

Disembowel  are  a band  from  Chile  that  plays a  blackened  form  of  death  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Plagues  And  Ancient  Rites"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  evil whispers  and  chants  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  bringing   in  more  of  an  old  school  black/death  metal  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.

  Disembowel  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  has  its  roots  in  the  80's  and  90's  but  with  a  more  up  to  date  take  on  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  The  Ancient  Ones,  Necronomicon,  and  H.P  Lovecraft  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Disembowel  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lord  Of  Shadows" "The  Pact  With  The  Sect  Of  The  Sea"  and  "Antra  Gnomorum".  8  out  of  10.
