Woes are a band from Denmark that plays a mixture of black metal, neo crust and hardcore and this is a review of their 2018 album "The Coldest Place is Within Myself" which was released by Godbox Records.
Synths along with some classical guitars start off the ep before going into a very fast crust direction while the vocals are mostly angry black metal screams along with the riffs also bringing in a great amount of melody as well as some elements of post hardcore and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with most of the tracks being short in length and synths also make a return on some of the later tracks and also add in elements of ambient, growls can also be heard briefly and the vocals also bring in a great amount of hardcore style shouts as well as a couple of songs also introducing clean playing and rain sounds onto the recording.
Woes plays a musical style that takes black metal, neo crust and hardcore and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album dealing with depression, love and self doubt.
In my opinion Woes are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, neo crust and hardcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Cold Wind Whispers Your Name" "Grey Skies" and "Neverending Nights". 8 out of 10.
