Evokador are a band from Guatemala that plays a mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their self titled 2018 album which was released by Barbarian Wrath.
A very dark and ritualistic sound starts off the album before going into a very fast musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats while also bringing in elements of thrash and the first wave style along with a great amount of dark sounding melodies and the music is heavily rooted in the 80's.
Even with the music being retro the heaviness gives the songs more of a modern atmosphere while the solos and leads are done in a chaotic and old school style along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the vocals being mostly black metal screams and as the album progresses a brief use of horror movie samples and synths can also be heard.
Evokador plays a musical style that goes back to the 80's era of black and thrash metal while still having some modern aggression, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover horror, death, evil and darkness themes.
In my opinion Evokador are a very great sounding old school mixture of black and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evokador" "La Ultima Trompeta" "Horrores Primigenios" and "Vomito de la Tierra". 8 out of 10.
