Malleus are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Night Raids" which was released by Atomic Force Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the ep along with the sounds of medieval era battle a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction which is also heavily influenced by the first wave of black metal along with some blast beats being added into the faster sections of the music.
Vocals are mostly grim yet old school black metal screams while both of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some elements of punk, thrash and speed metal as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the solos and leads also remain very true to an old school style and the riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies.
Malleus plays a musical style that goes back to the first wave style of black metal showing elements of punk, thrash and speed metal while also having some of the aggression of the second wave era, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover history, witchcraft and occultism themes.
In my opinion Malleus are a very great sounding mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Wretched". 8 out of 10.
