Vitriol not to be confused with the band from the U.S that has previously had an album reviewed in this zine are a band from Germany that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Chrysalis" which will be released in April by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the ep along with some avant garde style playing while both of the tracks are very long and epic in length. When the music speeds up a great amount of brutal blast beats can also be heard while the songs also bring in a great amount of dissonant structures.
Clean play can also be heard at times while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals also bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic yet melodic style as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies and at times the music also gets very experimental in some parts of the songs, acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly and they also give the music more of an ethnic feeling. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occult and esoteric themes.
In my opinion Vitriol are a very great and original sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Soma Somnambulistic Trance". 8 out of 10.
