Crush The Altar are a band from New Jersey that plays a mixture of blackened thrash and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Abhorrent Oblation" which will be released on June 21st by Redefining Darkness Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the ep before going into more of a heavier thrash influenced direction along with all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals bring in more of a mid 80's style of death metal growls and the music also has a lot of 90's influences.
Elements of black metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the solos and leads remain true to an old school death metal style. A small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with the music sticking to more of a mid tempo style and one track also adds in a small amount of clean playing.
Crush The Altar plays a musical style that goes back to the mid 80's and early 90's styles of black, death and thrash metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Crush The Altar are a very great sounding mixture of blackened thrash and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Demonizing the Ancient Lore'. 8 out of 10.
