Karloff are a band from Germany that plays a mixture of black, death metal and punk rock and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Raw Nights" which will be released in April by Dying Victims Productions.
A very heavy punk sound starts off the album along with some black metal screams a few seconds later which later evolve into more of the 80's style. The music also mixes in some first wave and black'n'roll elements while the solos and leads are also done in an old school style as well as some touches of old school death metal.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard while some of the tracks are also very short in length. The music also mixes in a great amount of 80's and 90's influences but also keeps it modern at the same time as well as the songs sticking to either a fast or mid tempo direction, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and the whole ep also sticks to a heavier direction.
Karloff plays a musical style that takes the first and second waves of black metal and mixes it with death metal and punk rock to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover dark and violent themes.
In my opinion Karloff are a very great sounding mixture of black, death metal and punk rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Like Blood" "Bastards Of The Night" and "Tonight or Never". 8 out of 10.
