The Ogre are a solo project from Brazil that plays a progressive mixture of black, death, thrash and heavy metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Entity" which was released by Sliptrick Records.
Drum beats and melodic guitar leads start off the album while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. The vocals also add in more of an 80;s thrash style as well a s having their demonic moments along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Some of the guitar solos and leads also add in elements of traditional metal while clean playing and acoustic guitars can also be heard at times. When keyboards are utilized they also give the songs more of a horror movie atmosphere along with the spoken word parts also giving the music more of a ritualistic feeling when they are utilized.
Some of the vocals also bring in more of a first wave black metal style as well as having their melodic and clean moments along with one track also introducing blast beats onto the recording, death metal growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Thelema, Mythology, Urban Legends. The Writings Of H.P Lovecraft and Horror and Apocalyptic themes that are also inspired by novels and movies.
In my opinion The Ogre is a very great sounding progressive mixture of black, death, thrash and heavy metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Macabre Hooded Spectre" "Nightrider" "Phantasmagoria" and "Beneath the Rain". 8 out of 10.
