Evilcult are a band from Brazil that plays a mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "At The Darkest Night" which was released by Awakening Records.
Fire burning sounds start off the album along with some ritualistic soundscapes, evil laughter and demonic voices before going into a heavier musical direction. A small amount of melody can also be heard in the some of the guitar riffing and when the music speeds up a lot of blast beats can be heard.
The riffs also bring in elements of thrash and speed metal while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly done in a first wave style of black metal as well as being very heavily rooted in the 80's with a more modern sound.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school style along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, tremolo picking can also be heard in some of the faster riffing and the whole album also sticks to a heavier musical direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Witchcraft, Occultism. Evil Forces and Blasphemy themes.
In my opinion Evilcult are a very great sounding mixture of black, thrash and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Drunk By Goat's Blood" "Eternal Cult Of Darkness" and "Necro Magic". 8 out of 10.
