Impalement are a solo project from Switzerland that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of his self released 2020 album "The Impalement".
A very fast, melodic and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly death metal screams along with the music also being very heavily rooted in black metal as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very chaotic style but still utilizing some melodies.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also adds in a good balance between old school and modern influences. One of the tracks also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording as well as some of the songs also being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard.
Impalement plays a musical style that takes black and death metal and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Impalement are a very great sounding blackened death metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Impalement" "Alma Pater" and "Satan's Fire In my Eyes". 8 out of 10.
