Pennsylvania's Veilburner have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an experimental and dissonant style of blackened death metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Lurkers In The Capsule Of Skull" which will be released in September by Transcending Obscurity Records.
Ocean sounds start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard while the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams and operatic female vocals are also utilized briefly.
Synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording while a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Throughout the album you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
At times the music also gets very technical and dissonant sounding along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing. The solos and leads also demonstrate a great amount of talent and skill as well as the music also having its experimental moments, whispered vocals can also be heard at times. Clean playing also makes a return on some of the later tracks and on the closing song a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a man suffering from a mental condition being haunted by ghoul-ish entities.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording form Veilburner and if you are a fan of experimental and dissonant blackened death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Tomb Of Dreaming Limbo" "Lurkers In the Capsule Of Skull" and "Dissonance In Bloom". 8 out of 10.
