The Cauldron Of Darkness are a solo project from Stockton, California that plays an instrumental, avant garde, dissonant and atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "Genesis".
Synths start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a heavier musical direction. Elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and all of the musical is also instrumental.
Dissonant structures are also added into some of the riffing while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Elements of atmospheric black metal can also be heard at times along with some blast beats also being utilized when the music speeds up as well as some songs also adding in some clean playing which also gives the album more of an avant garde touch, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
The Cauldron of Darkness plays a musical style that takes the atmospheric, dissonant and avant garde sides of black metal and mixes it with doom metal to create a sound of his own as well as keeping everything instrumental while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion The Cauldron Of Darkness are a very great sounding instrumental, avant garde, atmospheric and dissonant mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Genesis" "Constellation" and "The Pale Rider". 8 out of 10.
