Sweden's Cirkeln has returned with a new recording which continues his epic mixture of black, doom and heavy metal from his previous releases and this is a review of his 2022 album "A Song To Sorrow" which will be released on March 25th by True Cult Records.
Epic sounding keyboards which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times and nature sounds start off the album. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the music along with the music also adding in some touches of folk music and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and the music also mixes in a great amount of traditional metal influences.
The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with one of the songs also introducing clean playing onto the album. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and as the recording progresses a brief use of melodic pagan metal vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the writings of J.R.R Tolkien and Michael Moorcock.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cirkeln and if you are a fan of epic, doom and heavy metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The March" "Hills Of Sorcery" and "Thine Winter Realm Enthroned". 8 out of 10.
