Lykotonon are a band from Denver that plays an avant garde mixture of black, death and industrial metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Promethean Pathology" which will be released on November 25th by Profound Lore Records.
Industrial style bats start off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals bring in a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music also gets very avant garde sounding along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing as well as one song also being an instrumental, spoken word samples can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the darker side of the human psyche.
In my opinion Lykotonon are a very great sounding avant garde mixture of black, death and industrial metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Apocryphal Self" "The Primal Principle" and "Seeing Silver In Shadow". 8 out of 10.
