Amputee are an international duo with members from Japan and the United States that plays a very old school from of black metal with elements of death, thrash metal and punk and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Syzygy" which was released by Tanaka Shoten.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the music also adds in a decent amount of mid 80's to early 90's influences. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams that mix both the first and second wave era's together and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic and old school style.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the riffs also add in elements of death, thrash metal and punk. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with one of the songs also introducing clean playing onto the recording as well as one track also adding in a brief use of spoken word samples, most of the music sticks to a mid tempo style and the ep closes with a cover of Bathory's "Reaper".
Amputee plays a musical style that goes back to the mid 80's and early 90's era of black, death, thrash metal and punk and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover current events, biblical lore and personal life choices.
In my opinion Amputee are a very great sounding old school mixture of black, death, thrash metal and punk and i you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Telepathic Soldiers" and Trumpets Of Jericho". 8 out of 10.
