Paroxysmal are a band from North County, California that plays a very technical, brutal and blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Force Feeder" which was released by CDN Records.
A very dark, heavy and dissonant sound starts off the album while elements of black metal can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a lot of brutal blast beats and tremolo picking.
Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and high pitched screams while the mid tempo sections of the songs also add in touches of slam. At times the music also gets very progressive sounding along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very technical style when they are utilized and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length, clean playing is also added on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Introspection and Mental Illness themes.
In my opinion Paroxysmal are a very great sounding technical and brutal blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Awaiting Eruption" "Inner Absence" and "Force Feeder". 8 out of 10.
