Svartonst are a solo project from Sweden that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "May The Night Fall" which was released by Trust No One Recordings.
Horror movie style keyboards start off the album before going into a heavier direction while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. When the music speeds up a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats can also be heard an the vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls.
Tremolo picking can also be heard in some of the faster riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet chaotic style along with one song also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars before returning back to a more brutal direction, clean playing is also added on the closing track which is also an instrumental.
On this recording Svartonst remains true to the brutal style of blackened death metal that he had established on his previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Death, Darkness, Disease, Satanism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Svartonst and if you are a fan of blackened death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Breath Of Satan" "Filth Worship" and "May The Night Fall". 8 out of 10.
