Malignant where a band from the Netherlands that played a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 1990 demo "Day Of the lord" which was re-issued in 2024 by Vic Records.
A very distorted sound starts off the demo while also introducing guitar solos and leads onto the recording . Throat singing can also b e heard briefly before adding in some bass leads which also takes the music into more of a heavier direction while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Vocals a r e mostly mid 80's death metal style vocals while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Elements of black metal can also be heard in some of the tremolo picking along with some synths also being utilized briefly and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Malignant played a musical style that was more rooted in the mid 80's style of death metal as well as mixing in elements of black metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover darkness and evil themes.
In my opinion Malignant where a very great sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Lord of Darkness". 8 out of 10.
