Kontinuum are a band from Iceland that mixes progressive black metal with atmospheric doom metal and ambient and this is a review of their 2013 album "Earth Blood Magic" which will be released by Candlelight Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates though out the recording, as for the synths when they are utilized they bring a very progressive and ambient sound to the music in Addition there is a brief use of violins being utilized on the last song.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine progressive black metal with atmospheric doom metal and ambient with a good amount of melody being thrown into t he riffing as well as a good amount of clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic and progressive sounding guitar solos and leads.
Vocals range from clean singing that has a gothic feeling to them, black metal screams and spoken word parts as well as a brief use of female vocals, while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes with a couple of songs being written in Icelandic, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with some of t he songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Kontimuum are a very great sounding hybrid of progressive black metal, atmospheric doom metal and ambient and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Moonshine" "Lightbearer" "City" and "Red". RECOMMENDED BUY.
