Soul Remnants are a band from Massachusetts that has been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Ouroboros" which will be released in July as a joint effort between eOne and LifeBlood.
A very heavy and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats while the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams along with the riffs also using a decent amount of melody and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads also remain true to a blackened style of death metal as well as having its melodic moments and the music also has a lot of 90's influences while also sounding very modern at the same time and some of the fast riffs also bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and one track also adds in a brief use of acoustic guitars and stringed instruments along with an instrumental.
Soul Remnants creates another recording that remains true to the blackened death metal style of previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon a futuristic and dystopic nuclear war amongst all mankind.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Soul Remnants and if you are a fan of blackened death metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mechanical Synapse Modulations" "Echoes Of Insanity" and "False Kingdom Of Prophecy". 8 out of 10.
