Obscure Burial are a band from Finland that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album which was released by Invictus Productions.
Horror movie samples start off the album before going into a very dark and heavy direction which also introduces black metal screams onto the recording while a great amount of death metal growls can be heard along with the riffs also bringing in a great amount of morbid sounding melodies.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while the leads are also done in a very dark and melodic fashion along with the music being heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era of black and death metal and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the riffs also use tremolo picking as well as mixing in elements of thrash and as the album progresses a brief use of whispered and spoken vocals can also be heard and one track also brings in a small amount of acoustic guitars and an avant garde atmosphere before returning back to a heavier direction along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Obscure Burial plays a musical style that goes back to the mid 80's and early 90's era of black and death metal, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover Darkness and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Obscure Burial are a very great sounding old school mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Imago Mortis' "Necrophagus Ritual" and "Dawn Of Eschaton". 8 out of 10.
