Hraun are a duo from Germany that plays a mixture of black, goth, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Black Molten Essence" which will be released in April by FDA Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the clean vocals are also done in more of a goth metal style. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in more of a melodic style along with the riffs also using a great amount of melody and the vocals also add in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams.
Clean playing is also added into some parts of the music while the slower sections of the songs are also very heavily rooted in doom metal. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some of the tracks also being long and epic in length, whispered vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the album along with all of the songs also sounding very different from each other, keyboards are also utilized briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occultism, darkness and depression themes.
In my opinion Hraun is a very great sounding mixture of black, goth, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Occult Blood" "Rituals" and "Through The River Black". 8 out of 10.
