Scolopendra are a band from Italy that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Those Of The Catacombs" which was released by Nuclear War Now! Productions.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the riffs also add in a decent amount of evil sounding melodies. Vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls along with the music being very heavily rooted in the 90's but modern at the same times.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while horror style keyboards can also be heard briefly. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school style along with some of the riffing also showing an influence of thrash metal.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with some blast beats also being utilized when the music speeds up as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and as the album progresses a brief horror orientated instrumental can also be heard before returning back to a heavier direction on the remaining songs. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Horror and Tales From the Crypt themes.
In my opinion Scolopendra are a very great sounding horror orientated blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Exhumed Corpse Exaltation" "Zombies Feating" and "Crypt of Perversion". 8/5 out of 10.
