Nocturnal/Serpent Death/Dying Victims Productions/2021 CD Review

 

    Nocturnal  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Serpent  Death"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Dying  Victims  Productions.

  Melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  start  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  blast b eats  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  first  wave  black  metal  style.

  Elements  of  German  style  80's  thrash  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Nocturnal  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  first  wave  black  metal  style  mixed  in  with  the  classic  80's  German  thrash  metal  era  but  mixed  in  with  a  more  modern  take  on  the  genre,  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Evilness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nocturnal  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Ritual  Tower"  "Damnator's  Hand"  "Void  Dweller"  and  "The  Iron  Throne".  8  out  of  10.
