War Ripper are a solo project from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of black, thrash metal, punk and d beat and this is a review of his 2022 ep "Strength In Numbers" which will be released in August by Dying Victims Productions.
Drum beats start off the ep along with some heavy riffing a few seconds later while the vocals are done in a more aggressive hardcore punk approach. d beats can also b e heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the music also adds in a great amount of first wave black and thrash metal elements.
Most of the tracks a re also very short in length while the music is heavily rooted in the 80's era but mixed in with a modern day aggression. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some guitar leads also being utilized on a couple of tracks and clean playing can also be heard on the closing song.
War Ripper plays a musical style that takes black, thrash metal, hardcore punk and d beat and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover war and death themes.
In my opinion War Ripper are a very great sounding mixture of black, thrash metal, hardcore punk and d beat and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Abuse through Power" and "Hit Reset". 8 out of 10.
