Witchery are a band from Sweden that has had a history that goes back to t he 90's and plays a blackened mixture of thrash and speed metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Nightside" which will be released on July 22nd by Century Media.
Drum beats start off the album before adding in some heavy riffing which also introduces elements of thrash and speed metal onto the recording. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the music also taking an 80'a and 90's style and making it sound more modern.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the solos and leads also remain very true to an old school style. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with a couple of tracks also adding synths into the background and Gregorian chants can also be heard briefly.
One song also introduces spoken word parts onto the album along with a small amount of blast beats also being utilized when the music finally speeds up as some death metal growls also being utilized on a few tracks, one song is also an instrumental and also adds in a brief use of clean playing and most of the recording sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the Salem Witch Burning Trials.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Witchery and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Witching Hour" "Popecrusher" "Crucifix And Candle" and "Nightside". 8 out of 10.
