Abhordium Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

We've been writing new material and done a lot of promotion by ourselves and we just signed a promotion deal with Grand Sounds PR. We've also finished our music video for the song Obsidian Chamber. Most of the material was filmed in 2016 and the rest was filmed during the summer of 2017. Basically everything except editing was done by ourselves. The editing was done by Guilherme Henriques from Portugal. The music video was released on 6.12.2017.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

If you compare to our earlier stuff, the overall sound has greatly improved, but we've also spend a lot of time figuring out what kind of approach we should take with this material and how to get this brutal force into it. We wanted it to have this very aggressive and crushing effect.

3.This is your first album in 6 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?

Actually we already had this album finished a few years ago, but the release was delayed by various reasons. We also faced many issues and setbacks during these six years. Our rehearsal place suffered a huge water damage and soon after the renovation we got kicked out from it in 2013. We didn't find any reasonable place until 2015. Kari was also accepted to a school near Helsinki to study music technology and it took a lot of his time. There were also hardships in some of the members personal lives and thus a lack of motivation also. But still our desire and determination to do this kind of music drove us further.

4.Originally the band was more death metal but over the years have evolved into more of a blackened death metal style, can you tell us a little bit more about going into this musical genre?

Actually most of us have a backround in black metal and it has been the main genre we've been listening since the early days. Some of the members also have/had projects and bands that are/were black metal or some hybrid of it, but in the early stage of Abhordium we were interested in playing death metal, especially because of the technical side of it and we wanted to evolve as musicians like we always do. But later we had the idea that it would be great to include more darker and sinister elements to our music, because of our backround.

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer album?

It has views of depravity in our society and declares apocalyptic visions upon mankind, but there's also a side of introspection through exploring the dark and profound areas of consciousness and how to strenghten oneself with the knowledge and wisdom it provides.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Abhordium'?

It is meant to describe a state of mind where someone is feeling abhorrence towards something. We wanted it to have this -ium suffix that appears in various latin and english words so that it would better depict this state of mind. The unknown tends to create fear in man and it can evolve hatred towards it. Fear is of course a primal instinct but hate is an induced emotion which is caused by the conflicts of views, beliefs and values that are taught by our cultures, societies and religions and this combination can of drive people to atrocities. So the name also represents the destructive power of man.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
There's few gigs we like to mention from our 2009 european tour, which we did with 6 other bands. Berlin's K-17 club has the biggest stage where we've ever played a gig so it was cool to play in there. The place was also interesting because it had floors dedicated to a different genres of metal. We don't have this kind of place here in Finland. Also a show in Rotterdam's Baroeg metal club has sticked to our minds because the event was during the day and there was the best stage sound that we've had on our gigs at that time. We would also like to mention one private underground gig here in Finland where Kari did fire breathing and it caused a bit of hazzle in this narrow space. One cable caught fire and it was luckily extinquished with beer. Some people have said that our performance is very enthusiastic, nicely controlled chaos and also has this ritualistic feel on the other hand.

8. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have few gigs booked for the next spring in Finland and we are looking to play as many gigs as we can in 2018. Of course we're interested in touring also, since it has been a while. We are actively searching for booking agencies to help us out in this.

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We are currently looking for a label and we've also received some interest too, but some of the offers have been either too expensive and we saw that they could not offer us enough efficiency in promoting our stuff, because we know the cost of pressing the album and the other production concerning it.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

The overall response has been very positive which has motivated us to push on and make new material. Of course there's always people who don't like our music, but there has been only a few negative critics concerning this album.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Arttu has been a kind of session member in King Akira which is a melodic trash/death metal metal band from Salo, they released their first EP last year. He has also recently helped Ragged Sound ry to play cover gigs in Paimio where he lives nowadays. Kari has been busy with his studio Raja-Audio and he has also a side project and they've just filmed a music video for that too. Markus has been recording with his main project Misanthropic Forest. Tommi is making new material for King Akira and also has been doing Abhordium's pre-pruduction. Henry is the only one who doesn't have any other projects than Abhordium.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

The new material we've been writing has been more black metal, but we're going to make some pre-production soon so we get the ideas flowing and continue from there. We'll see...

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Like we said earlier black metal has always been close to our hearts, but of course also death & trash metal and many other extreme metal acts, but without saying the most influental bands for making this kind of music come from Sweden, Norway and Poland, but we all tend to listen to almost every kind of music since it's clear that if you want to evolve as a musician you must listen and play a lot of different styles.

14.Can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in rituals and the dark arts?

We've always been interested in the ancient religions and thus also their rituals and ceremonies and the mass hysteria concering them. Many time periods have been very bloody and violent in history. Dark times create dark arts. We are also interested in the introspective notion of these things. One must also delve into the deeper depths of mind to walk the path to greater understanding of oneself and connection to this universe.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for this interview and to all of those who have supported us during the years, thank you!

Nekhen/Akhet/2014 Full Length Review

Nekhen  is  a  solo  project  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  ethnic,  middle  eastern  music,  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2017  album  "Akhet".

Middle  eastern  style  folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  while  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  after  a  few  minutes  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  while  also  keeping  the  ethnic  elements  along  with  the  song  being  almost  a  half  hour  in  length.

The  song  is  also  divided  into  four  different  chapters  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  elements  of  black  and  doom  metal  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  music  always  sticks  to  either  a  sow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  some  extreme  metal  vocals  are  also used  briefly.

Nekhen  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  his  mixture  of  ethnic,  middle  eastern  music,  black  and  doom  metal  while  also  introducing  vocals  into  the  music,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Egyptian  Ritual  themes  in  the  28th  century  B.C.E.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nekhen  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ethnic,  middle  eastern  music,  black  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8  out  of  10.

Cruelty Force Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little about the band?

M.: Cruelty Force are born from the ashes of Toxic Soda, a thrash metal band that I’ve founded in 2012 with a couple of ex schoolmates. After some years full of trouble with the line up I was completely alone and in 2015 Angelo has joined in the band bringing a real wing of change. In the beginning the idea was to play a classical thrash metal in the vein of the typical thrash master of the 80’s, but with Angelo the ideas stars to moving in a new direction, choosing a violent and raw thrash/black metal with some influence from 80’s, 90’s and 00’s extreme metal.

A: Oh, I think there my mate said it all. I wanna add something to the situation when I joined the band. I were literally carried by his ideas and music because I were so bad at playing. Things changed, I think that the ''wind of change'' came together playing and playing in every place and every way we could. The music is the result of lot of work individually and as a band.

2.So far you have released a demo, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

M.: Has I told you before, we want to play an extreme thrash/black metal, also we don’t dislike a bunch of death metal influences, in the vein of bands like Mortuary Drape, Sodom, Destroyer 666, Vomitor, Death, Venom, Aura Noir, Kreator, Destruction, Bulldozer, Motorhead, ecc. Our demo is the result of many and many heavy metal influences, from the classical old school thrash metal to the second wave of black metal and also from the classical heavy metal.

A: The musical sound of our group is something we wanted to make sound different and more raw in the italian scene. To make extremely raw music for extremely raw minds. I don't think I can recognize our sound with some band specific but we got lot of influences like Mario said before. We just tried to play what our sick minds liked to play and hear. We like to experiment on music as well so we made an experimental outro that drives ''The Crueltty Void'' and unleashes it. The thing of starting it with a Gregorian Templar Chant and reversing it then unleashing our sound has a meaning behind. And it's not that hard to understand. The Real Life Cruelty has a place in where it started since the Day 1. And it's religion.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

M.: In our lyrics we talk about death, horror, violence, depression and other stuff like that. We are two horror maniacs, we love horror movies and for this we love to talk about horror and violence in our lyrics, but there is also an inspiration from the real life, which contains mast of the terrifying horrors ever. The concept of our demo Cruelty Void is an horror concept made by death, depression and horror (in every possible form). Personally I like to image that like and H.P. Lovecraft tale, full of madness, death and astral horror.

A: For me especially real life horrors. One of the lyrics I wrote personally, it's the Dealing with Death one. Like one year ago, my brother told me about a guy he know, that was born in an hospital and never saw the light of the day. He is still alive right now, but he can't move himself from the bed and he is being feed by a machine. He can't even talk and that's really terrifying. A life like that makes you think about how shit nature and life can be sometimes and how creep and sick nature itself is. When he told me that story I reflected I think for one hour or so on what this guy could imagine of our world, of what is behind that window and then I started writing it.

Life is terrifying in lot of cases, maybe Lovecraft were right about that cosmic horror and negativity.

4.Originally the band was known as 'Toxic Soda', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Cruelty Force'?

M.: The reasons of that change are many and at the same time is only one: The line up trouble were too much, we have meet incompetent people that wants only play in a band without make any type of sacrifice or without put energy in the project, posers and other shit like that. In 2016 we decide to continue as a duo and we start to wrote the first songs (all the demo tracks), and when we complete the recordings we have saw a new horizon for us, so we have decide to make a radical cut with the past changing our name in Cruelty Force. We think that is more appropriate for the new musical direction that we have choose.

A; Nothing to add to what my mate said. It just became Cruel.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

M.: We are looking for a bassist for many years, and now we’re still searching for it, in this period we are made some rehearsal with a friend of us as a bassist and the things are going good, maybe he can be the new member and Cruelty Force can be a violent power trio!

A: Yeah we are having a good experience with the new member, I personally hope that  the power trio comes out of it.

6.On the demo you had done a 'Mortuary Drape' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

M.: We start in the beginning with the idea of a cover in the track list of our demo, we had think about many bands that we love (before chose Mortuary Drape we were thinking to make a Venom or a Kreator cover, the last idea was to make a cover of Destroyer 666) but at the and we choose for M.D., we love them and make a cover M.D. was a great idea for made a tribute to the Italian metal scene that personally I consider more rich and full of great bands respect of many other countries.

A: The principal reason we made it after the other ideas it's because Mortuary Drape are an iconic italian band and I think it's the best tribute we could do to them. We added in the credits few other italian bands who influenced us because we think that's a form of respect to pay to them.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

M.: Yes, now we are unsigned and looking for a label. We have received a bunch of request by some non-italian labels.

A: Unsigned, we received some requests but we are still deciding on which move to make next, so we are still looking for.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and thrash metal?

M.: We are still undiscovered for the most part of the fan of black and thrash metal I think, but we have recived some appreciment by south American metalheads (those bastards love any kind of extreme metal!) and also from Italian and European metalheads. Maybe when we came out with some new stuff people will discover us with more interest.

A: Oh I think that the feedback is good. Like Mario said, we received interest from lot of European and South American guys and for me just the start is awesome. You know, when you make your music and you work so hard on it that sometime you just wanna freak off and then you finally make it... You're just pleased by that. The period in which I composed this demo with the Cruelty Force project was really a bad personal period for me and maybe the only thing in which I didn't fucked up it was this THING. We are still undiscovered but for me this achievement it's a big thing. Metal is this, being heard and appreciated by other freaking metalheads.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

M.: We have many ideas for the future, the first is continue to write new material and maybe come out with and EP or maybe with a full lengh. We want that our music will speak for us, and we will show our passion and our devotion at our fans.

A: Playing, playing and playing. We can't wait to make some new music and to release it and we are making some new material there.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

M.: We are principally influence by the old school heavy metal (heavy, thrash, black, death, doom). We love the old masters of metal and also some new bands that are now in the metal scene. For example we are two a big fans of Baphomet’s Blood (for say one name of the nowdays metal bands, also Italians!!!!!) and also Destroyer 666, Vomitor, Doomraiser, Vultures Vengeance, Blasphemophagher (many names from many geners!)If I must make a complete list of the bands that really influenced us we can wrote an entire book about it!!! Personally I’ve also an opened mind with music, I listen also other geners like 70’s hard rock and 70’s experimental music like krautrock and library music, I also love psych rock and old electronic music, but I prefer to separate the all that styles from my project Cruelty Force.

A: Me personally, in my instrument I got influenced a lot by Petrozza, Tom G. Warrior, Vikernes, K.K. Warslut and Schuldiner's way of playing the guitar and compose riffs, expecially Chuck's ideas and the way he started playing the six strings. It'sn not new that he was not that technician monster when he started. I remember one of his interview saying something like ''I could not play Exciter riffs when i was young so I made mine''. And this inspired me very much. Also like Mario said we support and love our Italian Bastards like Blasphemophager, Witchunter, Vultures Vengeance, Doomraiser, Baphomet's Blood, Doomsword and especially my countrymen from Sicily Inchiuvatu and Schizo! As a ''vocalist'' i like Attila Csihar's vocals, I'm crazy for his very low tone and sick guttural way he sings and i got inspired a lot by him.

11.How would you describe your views on Satanism?

M.: We love Satanism!!! Ahahahaha No, well the true is that we love Satanism when is made in the Venom style, we are not occultists and we don’t belive in the devil and other demons. The Satanism in the heavy metal (and in rock n’ roll in general) is an important part that makes the game more funny, like a riot of violence!

A: I don't like to talk about Satanism or religion in general. For me, religion doesn't have to exists. Venom's style satanism it's something different like Mario said is something that made history in our genre and something that freaked off lot of Christians as well. Then this is good.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

M.: Thank you for give us this chance man! This is our first interview ever! We hope to continue our road, writing and playing our music without compromise. CRUELTY METAL OR DIE!!!

A: Thanks to every fucking metalhead there who supported us, thank to you guys for giving us a chance and thanks to all the bastards who made Metal a thing. I wanna thank especially my mate for this ''travel'' to make this demo and my girlfriend cause she supported me so much into believing that our music was really A THING. Maybe the reason why i pushed out that hard to make this demo happen. Oh it isn't a credit space? Ok sorry. CRUELTY METAL OR DIE.

Faceless Burial/Grotesque Miscreation/Blood Harvest/2018 CD Review

Faceless  Burial  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Grotesque  Miscreation"  which  will  be  released by  Blood  Harvest  in  2018.

A  horror movie  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  dark  and  heavier  direction while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  as  well  as  some  grim  screams  while the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of   the musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  having  grindcore influences  and  the  slower  sections  having  more  of  a  doom/death  side  to  them  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Faceless  Burial  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  blackened  death  metal  style  of t he  early  90's  while  also  mixing  in a  touch  of  grindcore  and  doom  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  violence,  evil  and  gore  themes.

Obscure  Burial  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  album  which  was  released  by  Invictus  Productions.

Horror  movie  samples start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  dark  and  heavy  direction  which  also  introduces  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  while  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  growls  can  be  heard  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  morbid  sounding  melodies.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  leads  are  also done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  along  with  the  music  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  era  of  black  and  death  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great   mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

At  times  the  riffs  also  use tremolo  picking  as  well  as  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  whispered  and  spoken  vocals  can  also  be  heard  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  an  avant  garde  atmosphere  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Obscure  Burial  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  mid  80's  and  early  90's  era  of  black  and  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Darkness  and  Occultism  themes.

In Defilade Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
IN-DEFILADE is the extreme metal brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Jon Vesano, former frontman of the bands DARKMOON, DEMONIC CHRIST, and most notably, NILE. Contributing to his crusade are myself on bass and backing vocals and Erik Schultek (formerly of NARCOTIC WASTELAND) on drums. “Militant blackened death metal” is the term coined to suit our sound most concisely, and that's exactly what it is.

2. So far you have released 2 albums; how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings, and also, how do they differ from each other?
Crushing. Barbaric. Molten. Wartorn. And it somehow feels modern yet oldschool at the same time. On both Rulers of Famine and Elude, but even moreso on Elude thanks to having Schultek behind the kit and console (as he also mixed the album) and special guest Dallas Toler-Wade’s (NARCOTIC WASTELAND/ex-NILE) face-ripping solos violently dive-bombing in and out throughout. Universally, the previously established ante was upped in every department. The vocals give you laryngeal cancer just hearing them, the drums sound like multitudes of tanks rolling into (and through) town, and if solar flares could be played as instruments, that's what the guitars and bass sound like.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Post-apocalyptic survival; betrayal/defilement/infanticide and the murderous vengeance that results; eradicating oppression wrought by theocratic rule through personally killing every last party responsible for perpetuating it.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'In-Defilade?’
Enfilade and defilade are concepts in military tactics used to describe a military formation’s exposure to enemy fire. A formation or position is “in enfilade” if weapons fire can be directed along its longest axis. A unit or position is “in defilade” if it uses natural or artificial obstacles to shield or conceal itself from enfilade. Impenetrability. Strength in stealth. Gaining the upper hand on
attackers through martially utilizing symbiosis with the earth and/or surrounding environment.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years, and also, how would you describe your stage performance?
At this point in time we have yet to enter the live arena with IN-DEFILADE, but hope to eventually. Rest assured, though, that when the time comes, our stage presence will embody the bestial, blood-frenzied nature of our material more than fittingly. Anyone who's ever seen Vesano fronting NILE or me with my other band SERPENTIAN can safely come to that assumption.

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
None as-yet set in stone, but stay tuned.

7. Currently you are unsigned. Are you looking for a label or have you really any interest?
We have not received any label interest as of yet, and no, we are not actively looking for one. However, if one happens to come along and offers us a deal that we’d be fools to turn down, we wouldn't and welcome it.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
So far it's been nothing but positive all across the board. We offer a savagery that I believe is safe to say’s been missing from both black and death metal for the better part of the past decade or longer, and the fans seem to welcome it with open arms. Unanimously.

9. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
This is a band that will continue to strive for progression but not at the expense of integrity for the sake of it. We write (brutally) honest music that pours out of us naturally and translates into basically, a blend of all of our respective pedigrees, the tastefulness of which is a testament to our creative chemistry. The bar will be set higher for ourselves with every new endeavor, and that's not only promised but proven when comparing Elude to Rulers of Famine.

10. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what  you listening to nowadays?

DEAD CAN DANCE + BOLT THROWER x NILE / MARDUK = IN-DEFILADE. Over the past year I’ve been on a folk/ambient/world binge: WARDRUNA, HEILUNG, QNTAL, NEBELHEXE, HAGALAZ RUNEDANCE, PALEOWOLF, SEPHIROTH, DANHEIM, NIYAZ, OSI AND THE JUPITER, etc. ROTTING CHRIST’s Rituals and DESTROYER 666’s Wildfire have been huge for me as well.

11. What are some of your non-musical interests?
Cultivating integrated strength through the practice of martial arts and the pursuit of fitness; immersing myself in nature and engaging in outdoor activities with those I’m tribally entwined with; paleontology; the rare occurrence of discovering practical effects-driven 80s horror/sci-fi films I’ve never seen.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram (@in_defilade_official), and subscribe to our official YouTube channel [where you can check out lyric videos for “Will to Survive,” “Fearing the Worst,” “Apparent Adversary,” and “Contaminating the Waters (in Which You Swim)”] to keep up with the killing. Cryptae Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
René came up with the idea of the band after slipping and bumping his head while standing on his toilet to hang a clock.

2.So far you have released a demo, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
It sounds like a Twisted Mass Of Burnt Decay As Autopsy would say it. But hey, why describe what you can hear yourself:
Sentient Ruin Laboratories: https://sentientruin.bandcamp. com/album/cryptae
Cryptae: https://cryptae.bandcamp.com/a lbum/cryptae

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Death, madness, the cosmos. It's death metal, what did you expect?

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Cryptae'?
See question 1. For those who wonder: We pronounce it as crypt-aye (like aye in Canada).

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We just started with this demo. So far no shows.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We need to write some more first!

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your  music by fans of experimental, black and death metal?
It has been overwhelmingly positive. We just wanted to record and release this demo ourselves, but before we knew it Mattia of Sentient Ruin mailed us to ask us if we were interested in joining the roster. Of course we said yes and he's doing a great job!

8.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
René is working on 666 projects at once, like Dead Neanderthals (https://deadneanderthals. bandcamp.com), Celestial Bodies (https://anticosmicwarfare. bandcamp.com), DungeönHammer (https://dungeonhammer. bandcamp.com/) and his solo stuff (https://reneaquarius. bandcamp.com/). Kees has a non metal related solo project (https://keespeerdeman.bandcam p.com) and occasionally plays live bass for the blackened punkband Invunche.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Our demo is 1 month old at this moment. We haven't had the time to work on anything else yet.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Most of the times we're too busy with out own bands/projects, but we listen to a very diverse range of things. We're both very fond of Macabre, the album Exploiting Dysfunction by Cephalic Carnage and former Dying Fetus drummer Kevin Talley.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
More music.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thanks for the support! Keep death metal sloppy.

Mausoleum Of Death Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Untermensch: There's probably alot of folks that have not heard of us.
Essentially MoD is made up of 3 guys heavily into black/thrash and death metal.
As I've been involved already in a black/death n roll and black-ish kind of band. I really wanted to pursue something closer to the death metal genre as that's where my vocal capabillities are the strongest.
That and the fact that the horror/gore style stories and the morbidity present in the genres lyrics have always fascinated me.
The time had also come to step up and really try to deliver something worthwhile.
When I felt the time was right I asked Snarl if he wanted to do something with me, he did some kick-ass demo riffs. We played them for Bonecrusher who(if memory serves right) instantly agreed to join us.
Both Snarl and Bonecrusher are perfectionists, wich further fuels me and makes me strive for the best possible. The constant throwing around of ideas, tweaks and re-edits of things has shaped our EP in the most astonishing way.
I could not be any prouder working alongside these 2 very talented musicians.

2.So far you have only released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Untermensch: Dark, hopeless, angry, cathartic, lost, driven by rage.
Are probably some of the words that best describes the sound.
What we set out to do was create  something in the vein of old-school death metal, wich in my mind we have done rather well. You can obviously here the thrash influences from our guitar player, and the love of black metal in our drummers beats.
But we did not set out to reinvent the wheel or anything like that, the initial objective was to create some fucking great music and have a good time doing so!

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects that the band explores with the music?

Untermensch: Obviously we touch in on some of the more typical DM related topics as murder, gore & necrophilia. There are some personal touches also in the mix, including alot of rage and hatred.
I might potentially be the biggest misanthrope within the fold, happier without people around me...
Keep in mind I do have some manners of sorts, so I can socialize when I must.
And basically just a desire to see the world burn, we are most likely not gonna keep going in the traditional lyrical direction for the genre further on.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Mausoleum Of Death'?

Untermensch: At first I went through a bunch of different ideas, why I ended up with this I can't really say.
To me it just sounds good, and resonates that, well...we are all eventually gonna die and be left  to rot in a tomb. And it has a kinda grim ring to it, right? ;)

5.The band members live in both Italy and Norway, how does this work out in the recording process?

Untermensch: This process is potentially something that can break the camels back for some.
Snarl goes ahead and creates his riffs, then asks around for any potential changes we might want to make to them. Then he discusses with Bonecrusher the basic ideas he has for BPM, the what goes where talk. And when Bonecrusher has delivered his final pieces, Snarl goes back to record the final guitar/basslines.
And after the drums are done, I usually come in and complete my lyrics and add titles to the tracks. This process might change a little for the next EP

Snarl: With me being the only strings player, clearly the composition must start by me. For this Ep the aim was just a little more than kickstarting it all and have a bunch of songs that could be a starting point to create our own sound, so I basically sent the guitar lines of 4 tracks done in different times and inspiration to Untermensch and Bonecrusher. They liked it, we recorded them. The composition of our next material will be much more organic. I will write down songs and at the same time will leave my buddies more involved in the composition. Stuff like thinking about the perfect drum beat, speeding or slowing it up... stuff like that. Surely they won't be mere players, but rather creators alongside me.

6.If the opportunity came would the band be open to live shows?

Untermensch: Currently, no . As we have Snarl filling the role of 2 gutarplayers and doing bass. In due time, who knows. Never say never is a good motto in that regard.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Untermensch: For this EP we have not actively tried find a label. At the moment I rather enjoy having complete and total control, should however someone approach us with an offer. It would have to be discussed and agreed upon by all 3 of us. Kind of like the Musketeers, all for one or none at all!

Snarl: Finding a label is like finding a girlfriend: Having one is great but we don't want no half-assed one. We are no megalomaniacs, we just don't want to go around with a release that nobody knows about or saw around just because it was released in 33 copies or thereabout with no promotion at all. I've seen good records go totally unseen because of that. Which is a shame.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

Untermensch: So far we have only gotten in 2 reviews, yours of 8/10 and we got a 10/10 from Keep The Metal Flowing. The EP isn't officially released until january 15th, I am considering doing the digital launch via bandcamp soon tho.
But the general feedback from those who have heard the whole EP has been very damn good.
Some jaws have been left hanging, some don't care and others seem to really dig the sounds we have offered them.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Untermensch: The most important thing will probably be finding that defining sound, that will give it away as a Mausoleum Of Death song. We need to fine tune all of our inspirations and make them converge into a entity that really makes people go: what the fuck was that?
Work has already begun on chapter 2, and we will eventually get there .

Snarl: In many things you don't want to look at the final destination: you want to enjoy the trip and have constructive time. So we are doing.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Untermensch: As of late, I have been getting into Cattle Decapitation  for inspiration vocalwise. Travis is a beast on vocals. Cannibal Corpse, Death  and Grave must be mentioned also, probably my all time fave death bands.
But the inflience really goes back to when i got my first Maiden tape (Killers) and Nirvana - In Utero (the biggest fuck you ever delivered to a label?).
And as i've gotten older I've learned to appreciate more genres. Currently there's usually always Tom Waits, Frank  Zappa or Tusmørke spinning at my house.
I keep going back and forth between the 70's rock and 90's/00's metal scene. Bak then when stuff was good, there really is not that many brand new bands that can keep my interest too long.
2 of my latest discovered bands tho are Death Worship and Autokrator!
Higly recommended!

Snarl: Basically I tend to like everything that ends with "Metal" and to dislike everything that ends with "Core", but I'm very open minded too. I still listen to a lot of Black Metal, but I am a deep lover of 80s Speed/Thrash Metal, and I also adore every form of Gothic Metal and every form of the so called Dark music, from the softest Synth Pop to the heaviest Harsh/EBM music. Outside Metal, I grew up with the best Rock band from Italy, Litfiba, but also with Tazenda, Angelo Branduardi, Carmen Consoli, Matia Bazar and some more. With me, you can talk about early Slayer, Clan of Xymox, Agent Steel, After Forever, Angel Witch and Hocico and I'd always know what you mean.

11.How would you describe your views on Satanism?

Untermensch: Most people dabble with it, but with no real clue as to what it's about. Me included.
I consider myself more of an atheist with LaVeyan tendencies. Wich in itself is kinda hypocritical as I despise all kinds of organized religion, be it Islam, christianity or even satanism.....
If you want something real to worship, look out your window and behold mother nature. Now THAT'S a force to be reckoned with!

Snarl: Satanism early view is like an emetic medicine that allows us to throw up Christianity and all its indoctrination stuck in our brains for years. You can't just refuse christianity like an atheist: you gotta hate its damage done to you. I was a Satanist. I am no more like that since some years, but I'm not here to talk about myself so I'll end it here.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Untermensch: To those interested, you can follow us at: https://www.facebook.com/MausoleumOfDeath/
We may not post alot, but we try and keep it somewhat updated. Other than that, make sure to pour yourself a Lemmy tonight and spin some great records!

A  lot  of  the  music  goes  back  to  the  early  90's  era  of  black  and  death  metal  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  very  true  to  a  very  chaotic  and  old  school  style  of  black/death  metal,  when  spoken word  parts  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.

Mausoleum  Of  Death  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  dark,  heavy  and  old  school  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Violence  and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  Mausoleum  Of  Death  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Killing  Your  Illusions"  and  "Odium  Manifesto".  8  out  of  10.
