Hell United/Aura Damage/Hellthrasher Productions/2012 CD Review

  Hell  United  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Aura  Damage"  which  was  released  by  Hellthrasher  Productions.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  to  them.

  $Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  death  metal  riffs  that  utilize  a  good  amount  of  black  metal  influences  in  the  riffing,   while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  have  a  very  heavy  black  metal  feeling  to  the  leads  while  retaining  death  metal  elements  in  the  solos.

  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  mixed  in  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Nihilism,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Hell  United  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  style,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Apostle  Of  Plague"  "Aura  Damage"  "Maelstrom's  Gravity"  and  "Totality  Of  I".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Blackhammer/Damned World/Dod Incarnate Records/2012 CD Review

   Blackhammer  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  that  I  would  describe  as  being  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Damned World"  which  was  released  by  Dod  Incarnate  Records.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  blackened  death  metal  riffs  that  use  a  more  raw  and  primitive  approach  than  most  of  the  bands  from  this  genre  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  range  from  grim  sounding  blackened  death  metal  screams,  guttural  growls  and  spoken  word  elements,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  death  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Blackhammer  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style  of  music,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "XII"  "The  Beginning  Of  Agony"  and  "Fire  Above  Us".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Swallow The Sun/Emerald Forest And The Blackbird/Spinefarm/2012 CD Review

  Swallow  The  Sun  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  death,  doom  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Emerald  Forest  And  The  Blackbird"  which  was  released  by  Spinefarm.

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  gothic  sound  to  the  music,  as for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combines  elements  of  doom,  death,  gothic  and  black  metal  together  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  being thrown  into t he  riffing  as  well  as  some  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  depressive  and  melodic  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  enhance  the  darkness  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

  Vocals range  from  deep  death  metal  growls,  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  clean  singing  male and  female  vocals  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  with  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Swallow  The  Sun  are  a  very   great  sounding  hybrid  of  atmospheric,  gothic, doom,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style  of  music,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Emerald  Forest  And  The  Blackbird"  "Cathedral  Walls"  "April  14th"  and  "Night  Will  Forgive  Us".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

The Amenta/Chokehold/Listenable Records/2012 EP Review

  The  Amenta  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  has  been  featured  before  with  a  musical  style  that  mixes  blackened  death  metal  with  industrial  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  ep  "Chokehold"  which  was  released  by  Listenable  Records.

  Drum  programming  ranges  from  slow  to  mid  paced  beats,  while  the  sampling  and  programming  bring  in  elements  of  industrial,  avant  garde  and  noise  into  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  beats  that  combine  black,  death  and  industrial  metal  together  mixed  in  with  a  great  amount  of  distorted  parts  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  range  from  deep  death  metal  growls,  black  metal  screams  and  industrial  style  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  hateful  and  occult  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  a  mixture  of  studio  and  live  tracks,  in  addition  some  of  the  songs  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  recording  from  The  Amenta  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Christ  Bait  Rising"  which  is  a  Godflesh  cover  and  "Sekem".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
