  Soul  Remnants  are  a  band  from  Boston,  Massachusetts  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Black  And  Blood"  which  was  released  by  Horror  Pain  Gore  Death  Productions.

  "Chopwork  II"  begins  with  some  sound  effects  before  going  into  old  school  death  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  leads  to  some  guitar  solos  and  growls  which  start  adding  in  blackened  elements  after  awhile  as  well  as  bringing  in  mid  paced  sections  and  melodic  riffing  which  leads  up  to  another  guitar  lead  before  adding  in  a  variety  of  many  different  style  death  metal  riffs.

  "Cauldron  Of  Blood"  begins  with  some  drums,  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  black  metal  screams  which  leads  to  the  guitar  riffs  and  vocals  bring in  death  metal  and  mixing  them  with  the  blackened  elements  and  after  awhile  guitar  solos  start  coming  in  and  out  of  the  song  as w ell  as  mixing  in  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  "Incinerator"  begins  with  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  powerful  drums  which  also  mix  in  some  blast  beats  before  slowing  down  and  adding  in  growls  before  reverting  back  to  the  faster  parts  and  adding  in  some  blackened  vocals  as  well  as  thrash  influences  in  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  powerful  bass  playing  and  towards  the  end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  melodic  death  metal  guitar  solos.

  "Symptoms  Of  Death"  begins  with  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  leads  to  some  growls before  going  into  a  faster  direction  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  grindcore  influences  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  after  awhile  the  music  slows  down  and  starts  mixing  in  some  dark death  metal  guitar  solos  along  with  the  heavy  rhythms,  growls  and  screams.

  "Dead  Black(Heart  Of  Ice)"  begins  with  some  acoustic  guitar  playing  and  melodic  guitar  leads  which  leads  to  some  drums  and  keyboards  as  well  as  heavy  guitar  rhythms  setting  up  the  mood  for  some  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  some  melodic  riffing  while also  keeping  some  of  the  leads around,  as  the  song  moves  on  it  adds  in  some  powerful  bass  playing  and  switching  back  and  forth  between  black  and  death  metal  along  with  some  growls  before  returning  to  its  softer  roots  for  a  few  seconds  before  reverting  back  to  black/death  metal  and  adding  in  some  melodic  solos  along  with  more  blast  beats  as  well  as  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts.

  "Rape  Casket"  begins  with  some  heavy  death  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  also  mix  in  some  leads  before  kicking  into  blast  beats  and  blackened  death  metal  vocals  and  after  awhile  you  can  hear  some  powerful  bass  playing  and  melody  as  well  as  the  songs  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  few  seconds  of  keyboards  which  lead  to  some  melodic  guitar  leads  kicking  in  and  out.

  "No  Afterlife"  begins  with  some  old  school death  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  leads  to  a  darker  atmosphere  along  with  screams  and  growls  as  well  as  switching  back  and   forth between  being  low  and  fast  as  well  as  powerful  bass  guitars  which  also  lead  to  a  brief  use  of  guitar  solos while  focusing  more  on  riffing  and  towards  the  end  the  song  starts  mixing  in  thrash  elements  along  with  more  melodic  leads.

  "The  Antifaith"  begins  with  heavy  bass,  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  leads  to  some  blackened  death  metal  vocals  before  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  bringing  some  guitar  solos  in  and  out  of  the  mix.

  "Reanimation"  begins  with  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  dark  bass  which  leads  to  some  drums  kicking  in  as  well  as  the  guitar  riffs  getting  more  melodic  which  leads  to  the  music  getting  more  brutal  and  adding  in  death/black  metal  vocals  which  then  leads  to t he  song  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts along  with  some  melodic  leads  towards  the  end.

  Song  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  gore  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.

  In  my  opinion  Soul  Remnants  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cauldron  Of  Blood"  "Dead  Black(Heart  Of  Ice)"  "Rape  Casket"  and  "The  Antifaith".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Emblazoned Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Right now we have a few shows coming up over the mid west that we are getting ready for. We are also working hard on our debut full length album. We have plans to record in November 2013 and hope to have it our in early 2014!

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from past recordings?

In the past it was just me and a drum machine so the EP is way different than the past releasese! Sound wise I wanted to show more mid 90's death metal influence and capture some of that sound. When I think of death metal I think of what was happening around 1990 - 1993. The production of music back then to me sounded better - sounded real. I wanted the EP to have that human sound and not an over quantized sound.

3.Between 2001 and 13, there has only been 3 releases, can you tell us on the cause of that that?

Main reason - this was something to do when the other bands I was playing were taking a break from writing. It took me a long time to finish songs because I was writing and recording all the parts. When the first EP came out I did get some show offers but I could not find anyone that would really fit the bands style. It was very frustrating to see some real good opportunities get turned down so after that I kind of put it on shelf for a few years.

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new ep?

Lyrically we are not political or trying to blow minds with poetry. Songs are mainly about questioning religion. We like to come up with ideas that would make a good movie plot, then write lyrics around that.

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

I wanted to have a name that would be easy to remember and short. The original name for this was Serpent but that was taken a million times over. I wrote a song for the first tape release that didn't get finished and in the lyrics I used "emblazoned a crossed the sky". I was going to have that as the name but was to long so I shortened to just Emblazoned.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far an d how would you describe your stage performance?

So far we have not had a lot of live shows. Personally so far my favorite show was a few months ago we opened for Jungle Rot in Kenosha. Was fun to hang out with some old friends I have not seen in a while. Stage wise no big frills or gimmicks we like to just go up there and throw it down old school style.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans lined up for the future?

Yes we have a bunch of mid west shows coming up over the rest of the year. Once we have the full length album done and released we plan to support that as much as possible. Hope to get at least 1 US and EU tour to support it.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

So far been very positive - no real negative feed back. We have more feedback in the US than any place else. Other than via the internet we have not been able to reach a real massive amount of media in the EU. The cost to send out promo packs is very high and a lot of the media in the EU like to have physical copies for reviews.

9.What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

All of us also play in other bands. Jeff also fronts a band called Sovereign Descent, Alex and I are also in a band called Grievanze, A.J. plays in a lot of bands most notable is Decrepit Birth.

10.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

The new songs we have done for the next album are turning out to be a lot more heavy. We also turned up the speed a bit. I would describe it as a down tuned Panzer Division Marduk meets Dismember Massive Killing Capacity...well those are some large shoes to fill so how about its faster and heavier!

11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

All the classic death and black metal bands for sure. To me don't really divide them up its all metal to me but people will understand what you are talking about when using death metal or black metal monikers. Now days not a lot has come across my path that seems interesting. Aeon's new album is great the last Behemoth and Goatwhore albums were great. 

12.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?

Nothing makes better song titles or subject matter other than the Devil. Satan to me is the ultimate rebellion - nothing can be more rebellious in life that choosing Satan. Its a giant middle finger in the face to 99% of the world for those virtues I understand it but for the ideals behind it not so much.

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

I put in a lot of hours each week for my day job so I don't have much time to do anything else but work and music - and I'm perfectly OK with that! The only negative is I don't get out to see as many shows as I would like.

  "Pariahs  Of  The  Universe"  begins  with  some  Aborigine  folk  instruments  setting  up  the  pace  for  some  drums  which  in  return  leads  to  a  melodic  guitar  riff  and  after  that  its  goes  into  a  technical direction  and  introduces  growls  and  screams  and  after  awhile  it  starts  getting  a  little  more  heavier  along  with  some  guitar  leads,

  "Silver  Doors"  begins  with technical  guitar  riffing,  drums  and  growls  setting  up  the  mood  for  some  powerful bass  playing,  guitar  leads  and  screams  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  and   after  a  few  minutes  sound  effects  make  their  presence  known  before  the  song  returns  back  to  normal.

  "Soldiers Of  The  End  Time"  starts  off  with  technical  guitar  riffing,  and  blast  beats  before  the  growls  and  screams  kick  in  setting  up  the  mood  for  some  melodic  guitar  leads  which  in  return  leads  to  the  song  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts,  a  couple  minutes  later  a  brief  use  of  melodic  singing  comes  in  mixing  in  with  the  screams  and  growls  as  well  as  utilizing  some  spoken  word  parts.

  "Premonition"  starts  off  with  some  occult  style  sound  effects and  serves  on  as  intro  for  the  rest  of  the  ep.

  "Extinction  Of  Creation"  starts  off  with  brutal  sounding  death  metal  riffs  that  utilize  melody, d rums  and  growls  before  going  into  a  mid  paced  direction  which  leads  to  some  black  metal  screams  and  the  song  returning  back  to  being  fast  as  well  as  switching  back  and  forth  between  the  fast  and  slow  parts  as  well  as  mixing  in  mid  paced  sections

  Abominant  are  a  band  from  Kentucky  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  I  would  describe  as  being  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Onward  To  Annihilation"  which  was  released  by  Deathgasm  Records.

  "We  Are  Coming"  starts  off  with  deep  demonic  growls  and  screams  which  leads  to  the  heavy  death  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  which  get  faster  and  utilizing  blast  beats  as  well  as  returning  the  growls  and  going  into  a  mid  paced  section  while  still  reverting  to  fast  at  times  as  well  as  mixing  in  technical  elements  and  black   metal  screams  and  after  awhile  guitar  solos  make  their  presence  known  and  mixes  in  with  the  riffing.

  "Battlescarred"  starts  off  with  distorted  guitar  sounds  before  the  drums,  power  chords  and  growls  kick  in  and  after  awhile  blast  beats  come  in  and  take  the  song  into  a  more  fast  and  brutal  direction  and  making  switches  back  and  forth  to  slow  and  fast  parts  as w ell  as  mixing  in  a  small  amount  of  guitar  solos.

  "Onward  To  Annihilation"  starts  off  with  mid  paced  guitar  riffs,  drums,  and  powerful  bass  playing  which  leads  to  the  growls  and  music  going  into  a  heavy  mid  paced  direction  along  with  a  small  amount  of  screams  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  adding  in  some  fast  parts  while  focusing  more  on  being  mid  paced  as  well  as  returning  back  and  forth  between  fast  and  mid  paced  which  leads  to  a  brief  guitar  solo.

  "Hold  Your  Ground"  starts  off  with  some  traditional  style  metal  riffs  which  leads  to  some  drums  and  thrash  style  screams  as  well  as  mixing  in  power  metal  and  going  into  a  faster  direction  and after  awhile  a  brief  guitar  solos  makes  its  presence  known  which  leads  to  the  riffing  getting  more  melodic  while  remaining  heavy.

  "Beside  The  Dying  Flame" s tarts  off  with  heavy  guitar  riffs,  powerful  bass  playing  and  drums  which  leads  to  some  growls  kicking  in  as  well  as  some  dark  sounding  melodies  creeping  into  the  riffing,  after  awhile  the  music  goes  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  it  goes  back  to  its  slower  beginnings  which  leads  to  some  brief  guitar  leads  before  returning  to  a  faster  direction  and  switching  back.

  "Legions  Of  Hell"  starts  off  with  fast  drums  and  brutal  guitar  riffs  which  leads  to  some  growls  ans  as  the  song  moves  on  your  can  hear  some  melody  in  certain  sections  and  as  a  couple  of  minutes  go  by  the  music  goes  into  a  slower  direction  which  leads  to  the  song  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  and  bringing  in  guitar  solos.

  Song  lyrics  cover  anti  religion,  war, gore  and  death,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Abominant  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "We  Are  Coming"  "Onward  To  Annihilation"  and  "Legions  Of  Hell".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Autumnblaze Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Markus: Well, we are really happy that the new album has been released finally. It was a long journey with some obstacles but now we are here to present Every Sun Is Fragile to the music world.

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?

We just wrote the music without thinking too much of how it would sound in the end. Now when listening to the final product I would that's it's a quite diverse album. Definately no easy listening music. 

I think that there are connections to our back catalogue here and there. The typical Autumnblaze melancholy is omnipresent on Every Sun Is Fragile. But of course we are in 2013 and our sound is more mature and open-minded than on past releases.

3. You call your own musical style trip rock, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

"Bleak" was stated as Trip Rock back in the day. After that we found that this kind of style really fits very well to our music. We understand our music as a kind of journey, a never-ending trip. That's the whole thing. 

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics are very personal again though you can also read them as timeless thoughts about the human existence. 

Replace "sun" by "child" and you can understand the whole album. "Every Child Is Fragile" could have been a decent title too. There's a red thread through the lyrics, not a real story. 

So when you listen to the music, read the lyrics. Then you will enter a new dimension of understanding... most likely.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance/

Oh, we are not that kind of street band. We have toured some years ago with great acts like Oceansize, Antimatter or The 3rd And The Mortal. Amazing times for sure, but these days we have different priorities.

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Sorry, we don't have any plans regarding this. Ok, if there was a really fantastic offer we would definately think about it but for now I say: no chance. 

7.There has been a 4 year gap between the last album, what has been going on during that time?

Well, the gap is not that long when you know that Every Sun Is Fragile already was recorded in march 2012. We have started writing songs for this record back in 2010. 

All of us have families and we are all working hard for our living. So the music has to wait sometimes. But be sure that music is in my heart each day.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of metal?

Right now the feedback is quite positive and we are really happy about this. 

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We won't turn into techno or hiphop. That's quite sure. I have a lot of ideas for the next album. It depends on how we feel when it comes to the arranging process. Right now I would say that we are heading to a more compact sound with shorter songs and heart-breaking melodies. Everything can happen but you'll still hear the typical Autumnblaze vibes.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Our new stuff is influenced by our experiences. I couldn't tell you a certain band that had an impact on our new record.

I'm listening to Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire, Amusement Parks On Fire, Magenta Skycode, My Vitriol, Ashes Divide and stuff like that...

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests/

Many interests. Just watched the second season of Sons Of Anarchy. Brilliant series with great music and an amazing plot. Also I read a lot of books, doing some sports and so on...

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

  "Intro-Dead  By  Cumshots"  starts  off  with  sound  effects  and  spoken  word   demonic    chanting  before  the  drums  and  old  school  black/thrash  riffs  kick  in  along  with  a  growl  before  going  into  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  retaining  the  death  metal  growls  and  the  song retains  a mid  paced  feeling  till  the  end  while  the  drums  do  speed  up  at  times  and  the  song  closes  with  the  sound  effects.

  "Child  Sodomy"  starts  off  with  a  heavy  before  riff  being  the  drums  and  death  growls  and  black  metal  screams  make  their  way  in  before  speeding  up  with  powerful  bass  lines,  fast  guitar  riffs  and  blast  beats  for  awhile  before  returning  to  the  mid  paced  sections  with  a  powerful  old  school  black/death/thrash  sound  and  also  switching  back  and  forth  to  the  fast  and  mid  paced    parts.

  "Hookers  Parade"  starts  off  with  old  school  black/thrash  riffing,  powerful  bass  lines,  blast  beats  and  growls  while  also  utilizing  some  melody  before  the  black/thrash  screams  kick  in  and  the  song  switches  back  and forth  between  the  fast  and  mid  paced  parts.

  "Teens  For  Cash"  starts  off  with  some  primitive  old  school riffing  which  sets  up  the  pace  for  the  bass,  drums,  growls  and  screams  before  heading  into  a  more  old  school  direction  and  as  the  song  moves  in  guitar  leads  make  their  presence  known  with  distorted  effects.

  "Satanic  Bitch"  starts  off  with  blast  beats,  powerful  bass,  and  fast  old  school  black  metal  riffing  which  sets  up  the  pace  for  the  screams  while  also  mixing  in  mid  paced  sections  and  growls  as  well  as  going  back  into  the  faster  elements  at  times.

  "Eoroslut"  starts  off  with  a  powerful  bass  line,  before  the  drums,  guitars  and  screams  kick  in  along  with  the  song  going  more  into  a  mid  paced  direction  and  as  the  songs  moves  on  the  screams  start  kicking  in  along  with some  catchy  chorus  and  riffing,  after  awhile  an  old  school  thrash  metal  guitar  solos  makes  its  way  into  on  combining  with  the  rhythm  sections  and  vocals  with  the  song  ending  shortly  after that.

  "Wanted_Wife  For  Rent"  starts  off  with  powerful  drumming,  old  school  melodic  black/thrash  riffing,  screams   and  growls  before  going  into  a  heavy  mid  paced  direction  and  as  the  song  moves  on  the  riffing  gets  more  diverse  as  well  as  as  the  bass  playing  getting  more  powerful  which  leads  to  faster  parts  and  blast  beats  towards  the  end.


  "Pornorama"  starts  off  with  old  school  metal  guitars,  powerful  drums  along  with  some  melody  in  the  riffing  which  sets  up  the  pace  for  a  guitar  solo  which  leads  to  the  black  death  growls,  screams,  faster  guitars  and  drums,  as  the  song  moves  on  it  goes  into  a  more  mid  paced  direction  while  also  switching  back  to  the  fast  parts  at  times.

  Lyrics  on  the  album  cover  porn,  perverted  and  satanic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  heavy  and  old  school  sound  where  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  In  my  opinion  The  Meatfuckers  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hookers  Parade"   "Satanic  Bitch"  and  "Pornorama".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
