Immortal Bird/Sin Querencia/20 Buck Spin/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Chicago,  Illinois's  Immortal  Bird  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  dissonant  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  grind,  hardcore  and  noise  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Sin  Querencia"  which  was  released  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  dissonant  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  grindcore  elements  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  lot  of  the  mid  tempo  sections  are  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  hardcore  and  noise  rock  and  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  as  well  as  the  guitar  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  technical  style  when  they  are  utilized  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  tracks  also  mix  in  an  influence  of  thrash  metal,  aggressive  shouts  are  also  introduced  on  a  later  song.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover   complicity  and  complacency  in  our  current  reality.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Immortal  Bird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dissonant  black,  death  metal,  grind,  hardcore  and  noise  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bioluminescent  Toxins"  "Ocean  Endless"  and  "Sin  Querencia".  8  out  of  10.

Immortal Bird/Thrive On Neglect/20 Buck Spin/2019 Full Length Review

  Chicago,  Illinois's  Immortal  Bird  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  a  mixture  of  dissonant  black,  death  metal,  noise,  grind  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Thrive  On  Neglect" which  will  be  released  in  July  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Dissonant  structures  can  also  be  heard  in  a  lot  of  the  riffing  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  elements  of  hardcore.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music  along  the  vocals  also  utilizing  death  metal  growls  at  times  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Elements  of  hardcore  can  also  be  heard  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  the  raw  aggression  of  noise  and  grindcore  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  atmospheric  soundscapes  can  also  be  heard  briefly,  the  closing  track  also  introduces  guitar  solos  and  leads  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Immortal  Bird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dissonant  black,  death  metal,  noise,  grind  and  hardcore,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anger  breeds  Contempt"  "Avolition"  and  "Stumbling  Towards  Catharsis".  8  out  of  10.

Immortal Bird/Empress/Abscess/Broken Limbs/Manatee Rampage/2015 Full Length Review

  Immortal  Bird  are  a  band  from  Chicago,  Illinois  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death/grind  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Empress/Abscess'  which  will  be  released  in  July  as  a  joint  effort  between  Broken  Limbs  and  /Manatee Rampage.

  A  very  dark,  distorted  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  starts  mixing  in  elements  of  crust  and  grind  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  thrash  influences  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  and  also  adds  a  touch  of  post  black  metal  into  the  bands  musical  style  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  while  some  riffs  are  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  death  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Immortal  Bird  creates  an  album  that  mixes  a  more  modern  style  of  black  metal  with  thrash,  death  metal,  crust  and  grind  to  create  some very  heavy  and  dark  sounding  music,  the  production  sound s very  dark  yet  powerful   while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  philosophical  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Immortal  Bird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saprophyte"  and  "And  Send  Fire".  8  out  of  10.

Immortal Bird/Akrasia/Closed Casket Recordings/2013 EP Review

  Immortal  Bird  are  a  band  from  Chicago,  Illinois  that plays  a  blackened  form  of  death/thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  ep  "Akrasia"  which  was  released  by  Closed  Casket  Recordings.

  "Spitting  Teeth"  which  is  also  the  first  song  on  the  ep  opens  up  with  dark  and  heavy  sounding  guitar  riffs  before  adding  in  some  drums  and  black  metal  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  the  bass  guitars  in  the  background  and  the  song  also  utilizes  death  metal  growls  and  melodic  guitar  riffing  and  after  awhile  the  music  also  utilizes  some  blast  beats  and  thrash  influences.

  "Ashen  Scabland"  begins  with  brutal  blast  beats  and  fast  guitar  riffs  and  a  few  seconds  later  thrash  influences  and  black  metal  screams  make  their  way  into  the  song  and  a  minute  later  death  metal  growls  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  song  and  then  the  music  goes  into  a  more  slow  and  melodic  direction  and  halfway  through  the  song  there  is  a  brief  use  of  guitar  solos  and leads  being  utilized  and  then  the  song  starts  to  alternate  between  fast  and  slow  parts.

  "Akratic  Seminar"  starts up  with  a  mixture  of  heavy  and  clean  guitars  as  well  as  some  drums  a few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  some  black  metal  vocals  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  melodic  clean  singing  vocals  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  in  certain  sections  of  the  song  and  later  on  the music  goes  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  for  a  few  seconds  before  returning  back  to  a  more  normal  pace.

  "The  Pseudoscientist"  which  is  also  the  last  song  on  the  ep  begins  with  heavy  and  melodic  sounding  death  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  and  a  few  seconds  later  black  metal  vocals  are  added  in  and  the  music  goes  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  then  goes  more  into  a  mid  paced  direction  but  also  speeding  up  again  at  times  and  adding  in  elements  of  thrash.

  Song  lyrics  cover  rage,  resentment  and  anguish,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  with  the  bass  guitars  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

  In  my  opinion  Immortal  Bird  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death/thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spitting  Teeth"  and  "The  Pseudoscientist".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
