Emperor Of Myself/Vita Post Mortem/Hellenic Metal World/2023 Full Length Review

Greece's  Emperor  Of  Myself  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  blackened  form  of  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Vita  Post  Mortem"  which  was  released  by  Hellenic  Metal  World.

Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album    before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  parts  of  the  songs  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also being  done  in  a  very  melodic  gothic  metal  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  while   growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  when  the  music  gets  more  aggressive,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

On  this  recording  Emperor  of  myself  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  and  blackened  style  of  gothic  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Anti  Religion  and  Life  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Emperor  Of  Myself  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  blackened  gothic  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As  My  Soul  Burns"  "The  Wait"  and "Legion".  8  out  of  10.

Greece's  duo  Emperor  Of  Myself  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  album  "Tantrum".

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodies  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Elements  of  doom  and  gothic  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences.  One  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  thunder  sounds  before  introducing  tragic  sounding  keyboards  onto  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

On  this  recording  Emperor  Of  Myself  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  gothic  metal  that  they  had  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  life  themes.

Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  few  seconds  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  they  also  bring  in  clean  singing  vocals  that  bring  in  more  of  a  gothic  metal  feeling  and  you  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  throughout  the  recording.

Death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  are  used  on  a  regular  basis  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  modern  modern  elements  that  mix  in  with  a  90's  style  of  melodic  death/doom  and  the y also  add  in  more  clean  playing  at  times  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the    leads  they  band  brings, onto  the  recording  are  very  melodic  sounding  gothic  metal  solos.

Some  of  the  tracks  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  main  focuses  remains  mostly  on  a  slower  gothic  doom  metal  sound  and  some  of  the  tracks  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released during  the  90's  while  some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  more  modern  day  feeling.

The  album  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  along  with  some  blackened  metal  vocals  and  a  few  seconds  later  clean  singing  gothic  vocals  are  added  into  the  album  along  with  some  doom  metal  elements  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  symphonic  elements  are  added  into  the  music.

Emperor of Myself Interview

1.Can you give us an introduction to the band?
1.I am Dimitris Polizos the singer and the quitarist of the band.Emperor Of Myself started as one man band in 2006.I was recording some tracks by my own as an experiment to find a musical style to follow as a band. After several demos I was working to have a better quality to our sound. It took me 6-7 years to dicide that now it s the time to go a step further to record an album and release it ,and then came our first EP ''If It Bleeds ......'' with additional help of my brother Alex ,he is the drummer of the band. The drums in the EP is program, after that Alex took the role of drummer on ''Question Your Existence'', soon we will announce a second quitarist Nick Georgiou he is helping the project from the start until now

2.You put out 2 releases in 2013, can you describe the musical sound of both albums and also how do they differ from each other?
2.The EP was recorded in November-December of 2012 and released on June 2013.As you see here we have a death metal sound songs like ''Dead Simple'' ''Steps to the Unknown'' and ''Temple Of Darkness''.The rest are a mix gothic and death .In the meanwhile we had some tracks and recorded some to make a full lenght album ''Question Your Existence'' I think is a different album this one if you compare these 2.Here we have gothic/death metal sound with deppressive black metal elements that makes it more melancholic and melodic.I like melodies in metal and as you see it comes in this album,I think these 2 releases are differ from each other.

3.Can you go more in depth about the lyrical topics, you cover with your music?
3.We describe the pain ,despair ,the loss of things in life that makes you a differ person than you are I think all the lyrics are emotional about things that we fear ,things we want to change and comes with dark feeling ,

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Emperor Of Myself'?
4.I was thinking how to name all this thing ,believe me it s something that caused a headache. One day I saw on my friend s page in internet these words ''Emperor Of Myself'' it was a click for me after a quick search I saw there s nothing with this name I decided to have this for our band.In the past we had a band named ''Solitaire'' and I was thinking to have this name again but I saw Emperor Of Myself on my friend page on details about his work strange uh?

5.Has the band done any live shows or is this strictly a studio project?
5.For now is studio project ,we can t stand at this time we speak in live show for 2 reasons, we need band members and it s a little difficult for independet and unsigned band as we are to make live show

6.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
6.In these days the only thing that a label makes is to promote the CD of a band ,there are so many ways with internet you can promote your music. Many albums comes out in digital format and there are many sites like bandcamp,Amazon, iTunes ,that gives an opportunity to chase the dream of every band to make their music popular.Every one can download his music of his interest for free

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal?
7.It s amazing to see how things growing up very fast. Our music in the begining was private only for some friends now I see and I get messages from all over the world about our music a quick search shows our releases where they are and that gives the power we need to create more music for all the people that love metal. But here in Greece I made some contacts in blogs and on line magazines about ''Question Your Existence'' and the only thing we get is ignorance. That makes me sad people from the rest of the world have our releases on their blogs, sites etc and here there is nothingabout us if we had a colaboration with a big band I am sure they will pay attention to us

8.I know one of the band members participates in 'Floating Nowhere' can you tell us a little bit more about this musical project?
8.Floating Nowhere came in 2012 on soundcloud.I uploaded and demo track and a few days a message came from Kai Kross the track with lyrics it was ''I ll Remember'' it was very good song with the voice of Kai makes it unique after a conversation we decided to make an album with this sound gothic/rock metal mix.I think it s a good release, we haven t talk the last months we will see if it is possible to make another album now I am focus on Emperor Of Myself

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
9.We are recording new songs for our new album will release in the middle of 2014 the music is complete we are in the lyrical part.I think is the best songs we ever recorded with Nick Georgiou on the quitar this time I am very excited with the progress of all this it s black/gothic death metal with great melodies I can t wait to finish. In the future I don t know how the things will turn we will stay metal

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10.My influences are the old Pyogenesis I like them vey much and Paradise Lost.I like very much deppresive black metal and death metal in these days i listen Woods Of Desolation and Amon Amarth I like the atmosphere in the deppresive and the melodic death metal of Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquillity ,Parasite Inc,

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
11. I like very much airsoft and football. AEK is my love and it hurts a liitle to see in the 3rd Division but the tables have turned ,music is my main interest

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
12.I want to thank first of all You for this interview and all the people that support our efforts and they give us the strenght we need to Share Our Pain stay tuned the new album is coming with the new year thank you so much every one you know who you are

Emperor Of Myself/Question Your Existence/2013 Full Length Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Emperor  Of  Myself  which  continues  their  gothic  approach  to  blackened  death/doom  metal  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Question  Your  Existence".

The  album  starts  out  with  dark  sounding  guitar  riffs  and  blackened  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  drums  and  the music  starts  utilizing  some  melodic  guitar  leads  after  awhile  along  with  some  gothic  metal  influences

As  time  goes  on  by  the  music  starts  getting  more  dark,  melodic  and  depressive  sounding  as  well  as  mixing  melodic  vocals  into  certain  parts  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  also  start  incorporating  more  black  metal  influences  and  by  the  third  song  clean  guitars  start  mixing  in  with  the  more  heavier  parts  of  the  recording  and  on  the  forth  song  keyboards  are  brought  into  the  music  and  they  enhance  the  darkness  this  music  possesses  as  well  as  bring  in  some  symphonic  elements.

This  album  shows  a  lot  of  progression  from t he  last  one  and  the  gothic  and  black  metal  influences  are  even  stronger  on  this  record  then  they  where  on  the  previous  one  and  this  recording  even  has  a  more  melancholic  edge  and  more  acoustic  guitars  than  the  previous  recording.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  with  the  bass  guitars  this  time  around  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Emperor  of  Myself  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  gothic  blackened  doom/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Curse  of  Emptiness"  "No  One  Will  Remember"  and  "Revenge  is  Justice".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Emperor Of Myself/If It Bleeds You Can Kill It/2013 Full Length Review

Emperor  Of  Myself  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  gothic  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  album  "If  It  Bleeds  You  Can  Kill  It".

The  album  starts  out  with  some  dark  and  melodic  doom  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  and  then  blackened  death  metal  growls  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  a  mixture  of  clean  and  heavy  parts  and  the  bass  guitars  also  bring  a  very  powerful  sound  to  the  music  and  at  times  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  as  well  as  some  depressive  sounding  guitar  leads.

As  the  album  progresses  a  lot  of  90's  doom,  gothic  and  black  metal  elements  are  added  into  the  music  and  the  album  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  melancholic  and  dark  elements  as  well  as  bringing  back  an  underrated  genre  from  the  90's  and the  band  sticks  to  the  more  underground  side  of  this  musical  genre  and  does  not  incorporate  any  of  the  more  mainstream  elements  that  bands  of  this  genre  started  using  regularly  towards  the  end  and  the  female  vocals  which  are  used  briefly  on  one  song  bring  an  operatic  feeling  to  the  recording.

One  of  the  main  strengths  this  record  possesses  is  its  ability  to  mix  heaviness  with  melody  and  melancholic  elements  and  the  gothic  elements  do  not  take  over  this  record  and  it  is  more  in  a  metal  direction  than  a  gothic  direction  while  still  utilizing  some  influences  from  that  genre.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  album.

In  my  opinion  Emperor  of  Myself  are  a  very  great  sounding  gothic  blackened  doom/death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Your  Dreams  Your  Promises"  "Temple  Of  Darkness"  and  "My  Despair".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
