SwampCult are a band from the Netherlands that plays a mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "The Festival" which will be released in October by Transcending Obscurity Records.
Nature sounds along with a horror movie atmosphere starts off the album and you can also hear some riffing in the background which also starts going into a heavier direction and the spoken word parts also gives the songs more of a ritualistic feeling and evil laughter can also be heard in the music at times.
After awhile aggressive vocals are added onto the recording and they bring in a touch of first wave black metal while second wave style screams can also be heard at times and the slower riffs bring in a great amount of doom metal elements which they mix in with a death metal heaviness and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses the music starts getting more avant garde in certain sections of the recording and all of the songs also stick to a very slow musical direction.
SwampCult plays a musical style that takes black, doom and death metal and mixes them with some avant garde and ritualistic parts to create a musical style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon H.P Lovecraft's story "The Festival".
In my opinion SwampCult are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The old Man" "Al Azif Necronomicon" "The Rite" and "The Madness". 8 out of 10.
