Rotem/Nightmare Forever/Egg Of Nihilism Productions/2015 EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Rotem  which  continues  the  technical  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  the  previous  recording  with  the  ep  being  called  "nightmare  Forever"  and released  by  Egg  Of  Nihilism  Productions.

  Dark  sounding synths  start  off  the  ep  bringing  in  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie  and  after  the  intro  a  heavy  bass  guitar kicks  in  before  going  into  more  of a  death  metal  direction  and  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  growls  and  black  metal  screams  and  horror  movie  samples can  also  be  heard  in  certain sections  of  the  recording.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  an  old  school  death  metal  feeling  to  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  are  utilized and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  one  song  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  singing and  the  ep closes  with  a  cover  of  Mercyful  Fate's  "Come  To  The  Sabbath".

  Rotem  goes  for  more  of  a  straightforward  and  technical  style  of  death  metal  on  this  recording  while  the  music  still  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  style  vocals,  the  production  sound s very  professional  while  the  lyrics cover  horror,  psychological  and  nightmare themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Rotem  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Day  The  Earth  Spit  The  Dead"  "Schizophrenia"  and  "Hunting  Humans".  8  out  of  10.

Rotem/Dehumization/Ethereal Sound Works/2014 CD Review

  Rotem  are  a  solo  project  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  very  technical  and  blackened  from  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "Dehumanization"  which  was  released  by  Ethereal  Sound  Works.

  A  very  heavy,  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  alter  and  the  solos  and  leads  incorporate  a  great  amount  of melody  and  the  songs also  use  a  decent  amount  of  blast beats  and  you  can  hear  a  lof  of  death  metal  elements  in  the  musical  style.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  progressive  elements and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  death  metal  growls  throughout  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  thrash.

  There  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  playing  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  gets  more  atmospheric  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  and  one  of the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  a  later  song  covering  Celtic  Frost's  "Procreation  Of  The  Wicked"  before  closing  the  album  with  a  couple  of  his  own  tracks.

  Rotem  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  black  and  death  metal  together  and  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  elements and  technical  parts  which  also  makes  the  songs  stand  out  a  bit  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  political  and  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Rotem  are  a  very  great  sounding  technical  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dehumanization"  "Hypocritical  Politician"  "God  Complex"  and "Behind  the  Mask".  8  out  of  10.

Abandoned Dreams/Home/2015 EP Review

  Abandoned  Dreams  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  atmospheric  and  blackened  form  of  doom  metal  and  this is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "Home".

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  bass guitars  and  atmospheric  elements  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  clean  playing  also  brings  in  a  touch  of  post  rock  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  getting heavier  and  also  adds  in  melodic  vocals  and  you  can  also  hear  elements  of  black  metal  in the  guitar  riffing.

  All  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length and  go  for  mostly  a  doom  metal  style  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  a  melodic  and  depressive  style  of  metal  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  doom  rock  elements  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  a  very  slow  musical  direction and  after  awhile  a  brief  use  of  black  metal  screams  are  added  into  the  music.

  Abandoned  Dreams  plays  a  style  of  doom  metal  that  is  very  melodic  and atmospheric  and  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  post  rock  and  black  metal  elements  to  create  a  sound  of t heir  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  and  despair  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Abandoned  Dreams  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  blackened  doom  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Embrace".  8  out  of  10.

Grim Vision/War Agony/Bastardized Recordings/2015 EP Review

  Grim  Vision  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "War  Agony"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Bastardized  Recordings.

  Reverb  noises  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  aggressive  hardcore  style  growls  and  screams  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats,  melodies  and  elements  of  crust  as  well  as  the  songs  utilizing  breakdown's during  mid  paced  sections  and  the  tracks  also  bring  in the  heaviness  and  darkness  and  black  and  death  metal.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  is  perfectly  balnced  between  hardcore  and  extreme  metal  with  the  metal  elements  being  more  influenced  by  the  90's  styles  of  the  many  different  genres  and  there  are  only  3  tracks  present  on  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  last  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  Grim  Vision  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  hardcore  but  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  black  and  death  metal  influences  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy   while  the  lyrics  cover  the  destruction  of  the  world.

  In  my  opinion  Grim  Vision  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  hardcore,  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "War  Machine".   8  out  of  10.

De Profundis/Kingdom Of The Blind/Wickerman Recordings/2015 CD Review

  De  Profundis  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  albums  reviewed  in  this  zine  before  and  plays  a  progressive  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Kingdom  of  the  Blind"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Wicker  Man  Recordings.

  a  very  dark,  distorted  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  dominate  throughout  the  recording  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  more  more  of  a  progressive  and  extreme  metal  sound  that  uses  a  good  mixture  of  both  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  Blast  beats  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  lot  of  technical  elements  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  they  give  the  tracks  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  and  spoken  word  parts  are  used  briefly  in  some  of  the  tracks  and  there  are  also  some  jazz  influences  being  utilized  at  times.

  De  Profundis  creates  another  album  that  is  very  progressive  and  technical sounding  as  well  as  sticking  to  their  black,death  and  doom  metal  roots,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics cover  negativity,  solitude,  despondency  and  contemplation  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  De  Profundis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kult  Of  the  Orthodox"  "Kingdoms  Of  The  Blind"  "A  Strange  Awakening"  and  "In  Solitude".  8  out  of  10.

Sarpentra/Supernova/2015 Full Length Review

  Sarpentra  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  along  with  some  orchestra  elements and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  album  "Supernova".

  A  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro the  music  starts  to  get  a  lot  more  heavier  and  goes  for  a  blackened  death  metal  style  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats,  melodies  and  classical  elements  and  when  vocals  are  added  into the  music  they  are  done  in  more  of  a  growling  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  the  band  uses  utilize  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill  and  they  also  mix  in  the  classical  parts  into  the  more  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  there  are  also  some  tracks  that  bring  in middle  eastern  style  scales and  they  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  operatic  female  vocals.

  Sarpentra  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in death  metal  but  also  mixes  in black  metal  and  elements  of  classical  and  middle  eastern  music  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional for being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover occult  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sarpentra  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Iron  Nails  Run  In"  "Odium  (The  Temple  Of The  Sacred  False)"  "I  Set  the  World  On  Fire"  and  "Prometheus  Unbound".  8  out  of  10.

Logical End/Crann/2015 Full Length Review

  Logical  End  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  thrash  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  album  "Crann".

  A  very  heavy  thrash  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  solos  and  leads  and  when  vocals are  added into  the  music  they  are  black  metal  screams  and  the  fast  parts  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Death  metal  growls  can be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  a  lot  of  the  faster  sections  bring  in  elements  of  grindcore  and  the  songs  are  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  80's  metal  but  done  with  a  more  modern  style  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  used they  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  of  extreme  metal  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  on  the  recording.

  Logical  End  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  thrash  and  uses  black  metal  influenced  vocals  and  also  brings  in  a  touch of  thrash  and  grind  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics are  written  in  Spanish  are  a  concept  album  based  on  the  life  of  a  tree  from  beginning  to  the  end.

  In  my  opinion  Logical  End  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  thrash,  death  metal  and  grind  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II"  "V"  "X'  and  "XIII".  8  out  of  10.
