Sibiir/Undergang/Fysisk Format Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Siibir  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Undergang"  which  was  released  by  Fysisk  Format  Records.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into a   heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  being  more  heavily  rooted  in  post  hardcore.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grindcore  elements  can  also  be  heard.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  tremolo  picking  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing.

  Some  of  the  riffs  also  mix  in  touches  of  blackgaze  and  thrash  metal  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental  and  when  guitar  leads  are  finally  introduced  on  the  album  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  semi  melodic  tone.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  political  reality  of  today's  world.  

  In  my  opinion  Siibir  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  hardcore  band  and  if  you  are  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Divergence  And  Deceit"  "The  Flood"  and  "The  Famine".  8  out  of  10.

Vein/Self Titled/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Vein  are  a  solo  project  from  Ireland  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  progressive  and  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  titled  and  self  released  2024  album.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  and  atmospheric  sounding  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  one  of  the  tracks  is  an  acoustic  instrumental  before  closing  the  album  with  a  heavier  song  that  also  has  no  use  of  vocals  and  the  whole  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  Vein  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  is  very  slow,  atmospheric  and  progressive  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  anti  religion  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Vein  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  progressive  blackened  death  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ashen"  and  "Returnal".  8  out  of  10.

  Anne  O  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  hardcore  punk  and  progressive  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Metatron"  which  was  released  by  Art  Gates  Records.

  A  very  heavy,  aggressive  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  Elements  of  hardcore  punk  are  also  added  into  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard.

Kaali/Echoes Of Decay/2023 EP Review

 

  Kaali  are  a  band  from  Vietnam  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  ep  "Echoes  Of  Decay".

  Asian  style  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  tribal  style  percussion  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Orchestration  is  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  along  with  the  songs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  hardcore.

  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Growls  and  shouts  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats,  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Kaali  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal  and  modern  hardcore  with  touches  of  orchestra  and  Asian  folk  music    and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Kalli  are  a  very  decent  sounding  blackened  hardcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Spiritless".  7/5  out  of  10.

Nekura/Self Titled/Venona Records/2023 EP Review

 

  Nekura  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  mixture  of  emo,  screamo  and  blackened  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2023  ep  which  was  released  by  Venona  Records.

  Melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  screamo  style  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  capture  the  aggression  of  black  metal  at  times.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  post  hardcore  and  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  shouting  emo  style.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  some  of  the  vocals  also  add  in  more  of  a  clean  style.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  utilized.

  Nekura  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  metal,  post  hardcore,  emo  and  screamo  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  painful  heartbreaks  and  emotional  turmoil.

  In  my  opinion  Nekura  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  screamo,  emo  and  blackened  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Like  The  Morning  Moon"  and  "As  The  Breaking  Light  Of  Day".  7  out  of  10.

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  black  emtal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  When  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  elements  of  industrial  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.  Synths,  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

Damned To Downfall/Slavery For You/2023 EP Review

 

  Damned  To  Downfall  are  a  duo  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  this  zine  and  plays  an  industrial  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  ep  "Slavery  For  You".

  EBM  sounds  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into a   very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  elements  of  industrial  and  melodies  are  also added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

 The  songs  also  capture  the  heaviness  of  death  metal  while  keyboards  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  The  tracks  also  add  in  both  real  and  programmed  drum  beats  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  more  of  a  modern  extreme  metal  style  and  the  ep  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Damned  To  Downfall  remain  true  to  the  mixture  of  industrial  and  blackened  death  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  post  apocalyptic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Damned  To  Downfall  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Enslaved  By  Faith"  and  "Need  me".  8  out  of  10.
