Ataudes/Merecemos la Extinction/2020 Full Length Review

 

  Ataudes  are  a  band  from  Argentina  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2020  album  "Merecemos  la  Extinction".

  A  cosmic  horror  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  more  of  a  dissonant  style.

  A  lot  of  the  music  brings  out  a  lot  of  90's  era  death  metal  elements  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  some  of  the  faster  riffing  mixing  in  tremolo  picking  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  soundscapes.

  Ataudes  plays  a  musical  style  that  mixes  the  old  school  black  and  death  metal  style  in  with  the  more  modern  dissonant  style  to  create  something  very  heavy.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Spanish  and  cover  cosmic  horror,  death  and  nihilism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ataudes  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "En  Descomposición"  "Fin  de  la  Existencia"  and  "Hacia  el  Abismo/La  Muerte  nos Espera".  8  out  of  10.

Stygian/Dreadlands/Time To Kill Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Stygian  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  crust  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Dreadlands"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Time  To  Kill  Records.

  A  very  aggressive  crust  punk  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  clear  vocals  along with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized  on  a  few  tracks.

  Stygian  plays  a musical  style  that  takes,  black,  death  and  crust  punk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover Paganism,  Occultism  and  the  corruption  of  Abrahamic  and  Monotheistic  Religions.

  In  my  opinion  Stygian  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  crust  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Death  Rite"  "Runic  Ritual"  "Unholy  Wars"  and  "Where  Dead  Men  Stand".  8  out  of  10.

Mortalha Negra/Necromante/Helldprod Records/2025 EP Review

 

  Mortalha  Negra  are  a  duo  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "Necromante"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Helldprod  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  evil  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   lot  of  blast beats  and  the  vocals  mix  the  first  and  second  wave  era's  of  black  metal  together.

  Elements  of  80's  era  death  and  thrash  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  Brazilian  style.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  remaining  very  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  Mortalha  Negra  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  80's  and  90's  era  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Portuguese  and  cover  Necromancy  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Mortalha  Negra  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  duo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Os  Ventos  Trazem  Maldição"  and  "Necromante".  8  out  of  10.

Nithe/Funeral Death/Caligari Records/2025 Demo Review

 

  Nithe  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  demo  "Funeral  Death"  which  will  be  released  on  May  30th  by  Caligari  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  80's  and  90's  era  as  well  as  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  some  back  up  shouts  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  whole  demo  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction,  tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  clear  chants  are  also  used  briefly.

  Nithe  plays  a  musical  style  that  goes  back  to  the  90's  and  90's  era  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror,  blasphemy  and  misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nithe  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Chains  Of  The  Abyss"  and  "Poison  Wind".  8  out  of  10.

Hate/Bellum Regis/Metal Blade Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Poland's  Hate  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  expanding  on  the  blackened  death  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Bellum  Regis'  which  was  released  by  Metal  Blade  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  words  a  few  seconds  later  while  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.  Orchestration  is  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  the  harsh  vocals  also  add  in  a  lot  of  death  metal  growls  and  brutal  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  are  also  added  into t he  faster  sections  of  the  recording.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  melodic  style  and  the  album  also  adds  in  a  lot  of  black  metal  elements.  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  and  a  later  track  also  introduces  spoken  words  into  the  music.  

  On  this  recording  hate  takes  their  style  of  blackened  death  metal  into  a  different  direction  without  losing  any  of  the  brutality  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  Mythology,  and  the  struggle  for  power.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hate  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bellum  Regis"  "A  Ghost  of  Lost  Delight"  and  "Ageless  Harp  Of  Devilry".  8  out  of  10.

Doctor LivingStone/Notes Du Paradis - Whoop Whoop Wee Wee/Coups de Couteau/2025 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Doctor  Livingstone  where  a  band  from  France  that  played  an  experimental  mixture  of  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2008  album  "Notes  Du  Paradis  -  Whoop  Whoop  Wee  Wee"  which  was  re-issued  in  2025  by  Coups  de  Couteau.

  A  very  heavy  and  brutal  crust  punk  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  hardcore  elements  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  lot  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  short  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard on  a  couple  of  tracks.

 Some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adds  in  a  good  amount  of  tremolo  picking along  with  some melodies  also  being  introduced  into  the  riffs  as  the  album  progresses,  one  track  is  also  an  instrumental  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Dadaism  and  the  writings  of  Marquis  De  Sade,  Schopenhauer  and  Cioran.

  In  my  opinion  Doctor  Livingstone  where  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  mixture  of  black  metal,  crust  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Et  Notre  Bon  Dieu  Veilla  Sur Nous"  "You  And  Gangrene"  "Lies,  Lies,  Lies"  and  "Phényléthylamine".  8  out  of  10.

  Morbyda  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Under  The  Spell"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Dying  Victims  Productions.

  Tortured  voices  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  80's  influenced  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style. Vocals  are mostly  first  wave  style  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.
