Niel Anilao is a solo artist from Florida that plays a very progressive and technical form of blackened death metal and this is a review of his self released 2013 album "Solo Compositions" with all of the songs being recorded in between 2004 and 2008.
The album starts out with some heavy death metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds alter growls and screams are added into the music along with some technical sounding guitar leads shortly after that and when the album goes into the next song there is some clean guitars which enhance the progressive nature of the music.
As the album progresses psychedelic elements are added into the music as well as some blast beats and there are also some instrumentals present on this record and on the 4th song the music goes into a black metal direction while still keeping around progressive and death metal influences and acoustic guitars are also used briefly on the 5th song before going into a more brutal death metal direction on the next track before going into a more experimental direction and on the last song to music returns to a more brutal direction.
Niel Anilao shows a great amount of diversity with his music and there is a mixture of brutal death metal, progressive and experimental and this album is very hard to categorize with all of the many musical directions it takes.
Song lyrics cover dark, violent and humorous themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording.
In my opinion Niel Anilao plays a very great sounding mixture of black, death metal, progressive and experimental music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo artist. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "An Answer" "Parasitic" "Euphoric Dissolution" and "No Time in Eternity". 7/5 out of 10.
