Manzer are a band from France that plays a blackened form of thrash metal and this is a review of their 2015 compilation album "Pictavian Chronicles - Volume 1" which was released by Armee de la Mort Records.
Reverb sounds start of the compilation along with some heavy guitars a few seconds alter that leads toi more of a blackened thrash metal direction along with some vocals that bring in aggressive screams while also bring melodic at times and the music also brings in a heavy dose of 80's first wave black metal influences.
All of the musical instruments on the compilation have a very powerful sound to them and when solos and leads are utilized they bring in even more of a melodic old school metal feeling to the recording and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the faster sections also bring in a great mixture of blast beats along with a touch of the second wave black metal and some of the riffs also bring in a punk rock feeling at times and they also bring in Venom, Mercyful Fate, Abigail and Motorhead covers along with a few live tracks.
Manzer plays a style of black metal that goes back to the first wave of the genre while also adding in elements of thrash and punk along with a touch of the second wave style to create some music that is very retro yet aggressive at the same time, the production has a very old school yet powerful sound while the lyrics cover Satan, Alcohol, Sex, Pictavia and Blasphemy.
In my opinion Manzer are a very great sounding blackened thrash metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pictavian Bastards" "Prowler From Hell" "The Metal Side" and "Ride Of the Beast". 8 out of 10.
