Martelo Negro are a band from Portugal that plays a mixture of black, death and thrash metal with a touch of d beat and this is a review of their 2019 album "Parthenogenesis" which will be released in April by Hellprod Records.
A horror movie orientated intro starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction. A great amount of thrash and first wave black metal elements can also be heard in the bands musical style. Vocals also add in more of a mid 80's death metal style and d beats are also utilized at times.
Black metal screams can also be heard in some parts of the music while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Spoken words can also be heard briefly along with a brief use of semi clean playing being added onto one of the tracks and they also make an old school style sound more modern.
Back up shouts are also added into some parts of the music along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies at times. Horror orientated soundscapes also make a return on some of the other tracks and the music also shows a very heavy Celtic Frost and Hellhammer influence while the solos and leads add in more of an old school metal/punk style. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics are written in Portuguese and cover darkness, necromancy and occultism themes.
In my opinion Martelo Negro are a very great sounding mixture of black, death and thrash metal with a touch of d beat and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Arcanjo das Sombras" "Orgias Iniciaticas" and "Solsticio Funerario". 8 out of 10.
