Strychnos are a band from Denmark that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "A Mother's Curse" which will be released in November by Dark Descent Records.
A very dark y et heavy sound starts off the album along with some death metal grows a few seconds later. Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the riffing while black metal screams can also be heard at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also utilized.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. At times atmospheric elements are also mixed in with the more brutal side of the album as well as a couple of songs also being long and epic in length, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style and clean vocals, synths and spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of tracks.
Strychos plays a style of blackened death metal that is very atmospheric and brutal sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover terror, hope and tragedy themes.
In my opinion Strychnos are a very great sounding atmospheric blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Traumer" "Horror Sacred Torture Divine" and "The Doppelganger Stare". 8 out of 10.
