Hellir are a band from Asheville, North Carolina that plays a very atmospheric sounding mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2024 album "Wheel Of Ghosts".
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower parts of the recording while the vocals also add in a mixture of black metal screams, death metal growls and clear singing.
Clean playing and acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while all of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with some whispers also being utilized briefly , when guitar solos and leads are finally utilized they are done in a very melodic style and the whole album also sticks to a slower section.
Hellir plays a musical style that takes the atmospheric forms of black and doom metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Hellir are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wolf King" "Moria" and "Flail". 8 out of 10.
